Yes, I didn't comment until 404cameljockey mentioned an operation similar to my son's op. However, the advice to visit Dr. Suthat is probably the best berlinmichael will receive. He isn't expensive, and will give an informed decision on what is needed. However, it is most likely a MRI will be required to give the informed advice. Until the MRI it is all guesswork.

Of course, that's fair comment.

Yes I made that point. He' may just require meniscus removal that's why I mentioned that easier and cheaper option if possible. Most people think of 'knee replacement' until they've investigated what the terms mean (and had the MRI to know which is the best solution). We've since seen that he's uninsured so that might also figure in the choice.

Hopefully it's not long-term bone damage.

Dr. Suthat should sort it. Or at least, provide the best solutions. berlinmichael can then choose the best solution within his budget.

Thanks again for the responses!

I have seen two orthopaedic doctors here in Hua Hin and had an X-ray. The original problem is damage to a much reduced meniscus in both knees though one much worse than the other. The last doctor thought that if the cortisone injection didn't help ( it didn't!) then he thought a replacement knee would be the answer. I was hoping it would only be the removal and replacement of the damaged meniscus. This is why I'm interested in another opinion from Dr.Suthat and this will be my next course of action. Thanks again....
