Well, back in 2011, if they weren't so busy trying to fill in certain drains to protect the elite areas instead of opening them all up, the floods would have lasted a week instead of months..

Flooding has affected about 13,200 households across Tak, Kalasin, Ubon Ratchathani and Trat provinces, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported on Thursday.
The department said that floodwaters remain in 21 villages of Ban Tak and Sam Ngao districts in the northern province of Tak.
In the northeastern province of Kalasin, a total of 322 villages across 10 districts, including Khong Chai, Huai Mek, Kamalasai, Muang, Nong Kung Si, Rong Kham, Sahatsakhan, Sam Chai, Tha Khantho, and Yang Talat, are inundated.
Also in the Northeast, flooding have affected 35 villages in Muang and Warin Chamrap districts of Ubon Ratchathani.
In the East, one village in Bo Rai district of Trat remains under water.
According to the department, flood levels in some areas of these provinces are subsiding.
However, the Meteorological Department predicted heavy rains from Thursday to Saturday in the upper part of the country, and rainfall is expected nationwide from Sunday to Wednesday of the following week.

Dams full, flood warnings as discharge rates raised

The Office of National Water Resources warns of possible flooding in areas below large reservoirs in the North, the Northeast and the Central Plains from Thursday to Wednesday next week, as they already exceed their maximum storage levels and discharges rates will be increased.
The office said on Tuesday that water volume in nine major reservoirs now exceeded their upper rule curves (which specify the storage or empty space to be maintained in a reservoir during different times of the year). Areas downstream were at risk of flooding from the extra discharge:
* In the North
- Mae Ngat Somboon Chon reservoir in Chiang Mai province.
- Kiew Lom and Mae Mok reservoir in Lampang.
* In the Northeast
- Huai Luang reservoir in Udon Thani.
- Nam Pung and Nong Han reservoirs in Sakon Nakhon.
- Ubol Ratana reservoir in Khon Kaen.
- Lampao reservoir in Kalasin.
* in the Central Plain
- Khun Dan Prakan Chon reservoir in Nakhon Nayok.
The Office of National Water Resources forecasts rain to continue into Thursday and there could be flooding in low-lying areas below the reservoirs from Thursday to Wednesday next week.
The office warned of flooding in low-lying parts of Phichit, Phitsanulok, Roi Et, Sukhothai and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.
Deputy Prime Minister Somsak Thepsutin said on Tuesday he was concerned about areas below the Chao Phraya barrage dam in Chai Nat province. It will have to discharge water at more than 1,500 cubic metres per second, above its normal rate of 1,400 cu/m per second.
In the northern province of Petchabun, the Pa Sak River has already overflowed into most of Lom Sak district.
Deputy provincial governor Chatchawal Benchasiriwong said the water spreading throughout Lom Sak was runoff from Lom Kao district and overflow from the Huai Khon Kaen reservoir in Lom Sak.
The floodwater would drain off in two to four days, unless there was more rain, he said.

More rain, flooding in far South

Persistent rain continues to cause flooding in five lower southern provinces, with Narathiwat suffering the most.
The others are Yala, Pattani, Songkhla and Satun, the Interior Ministry reported on Tuesday.
Spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul said continuous rain since Friday had caused flooding which affected 19,624 families in 24 districts of the five provinces.
Narathiwat was the hardest hit with 16,680 affected households in 11 inundated districts. Floods were reported in six districts of Yala, four in Pattani, two in Songkhla and one in Satun..............

My Granddaughter's boyfriend has been on standby to go down to help for the last 24 hours, but is currently still here in Hua Hin. That's a long way to travel to help people when there must be dozens of rescue services in between.
