I used Mahan Air last December from Birmingham to Bangkok via Tehran. It was the cheapest flight I could get for that time of year. I was going to book it again for our trip in July but they no longer fly from Birmingham only Manchester.
The price I have paid to fly Eva Air I could have got business class on Mahan Air. The food was very good and only soft drinks are offered. The only problem was I am a tv addict and there was only tv in Iranian.
We stopped over in Teheran for about 2 hours and was offered a sandwich and beverages. It is a very reasonable price for flights in the busy season and we will be flying with they again if they decide to reopen Birmingham
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges
Having worked and lived in the Middle East for a number of years I would be very wary of flying through Iran, even just in transit. Remember the British Airways flight which was held in Kuwait airport by the Iraqis in 1990.
Iran is a lovely country with great people, I've been there many times on business and my daughter went skiing there a few years ago and had a great time. (Un)fortunately, depending on your point of view, the present regime seem determined to wind up Bush and Co. and a few infidels could just find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. As they say S**t happens.
For a few bucks extra I would take a flight with movies and the odd tipple to assist with the sleep process.
You must be completley insane for consideribg this option. The next post from you will probably relate to where one can buy the cheapest bottle of Chang in HH.

Buy it by the case from the wholesaler, just past the bus office on the right.

Steve: Your words of wisdom have finally arrived at the top of the "in tray" of the Department of Transport in the UK. They have just suspended their license.
If these things follow the normal course they will get banned from the whole EU pretty soon. The main problem with airlines based in countries such as Iran is that their regulatory systems are dysfunctional and prone to corruption. Often they will be manned by cronies with no knowledge or experience of aviation.
Also there were reports here in Australia that all Indonesian airlines (Inc Guruda) were all going to be banned by the EU due to the latest crash incident in Indonesia until all airlines passed the relevant safety tests.

Has anyone used Mahan Air, Manchester to Bkk recently.. Looking for feedback please.
I flew Mahan from Birmingham last year (rout suspended since I think), but this year flew with them from Düsseldorf to BKK stopping at Tehran and to be honest did not regret it once.
The flight was good, air hostess nice and friendly, and lots of food.
So if you are not an in-flight entertainment junky go for it.
