Serious Question

Where to go to escape the rain?

The whole of Thailand is out, I assume
Also seriously considering getting out of LOS (land of saturation) for at least 4 months a year due to these half-year wet seasons - could be good material for a new thread ...

I almost started a new thread actually

But then again it's very much related to the title of this thread (I've seen other thread go more off topic)

But perfectly happy to start WHERE TO TRAVEL TO AVOID THAILAND RAINY SEASON? thread if deemed necessary

I am 2klms south of Black Mountain and the measured rainfall for the last 3 days up to 12.30am today is mm30, mm21 and mm45

From 3.30 this morning until 10.30
17 mm of light constant rain
went to HH shopping, Market Village, Big C, Makro, it was wet, very wet..
even wetter over DB "s place by the look of it
back here a chart topping 1.5 mm more..

it might be interesting , for some, if those with rain guages, could post their totals for this october drenching
maybe in a few days when the system had ended

According to ThaiMet weather station in Soi 51/53 Hua Hin

In October it's rained every day apart from the 1st

Naturally one of those days was the heaviest but it wasnt a deluge(yes heavy at 40mm but we can get double that in Oct)

So fairly steady everyday

According to Weather and Climate website we've had 83% more rain in first 10 days of Oct than we should get(average for month is 249mm. Over what period of years I dont know)

But it's early days and maybe it will stop soon and all balance out. Or then again maybe we'll get almost double the average like we did 2 years ago. And let's not forget October is already the wettest month of the year in Hua Hin by far.

But if anyone says "it's only rained for a few days" and not for very long at that then just ignore them.

Although still in transition, it has basically swung around to the North East.
I think that's spot on, The southwest monsoon is over and what now follows will be coming from the east, and the odd tail end of any late typhoons.

Hope you're right.

Two years ago it looked like we might be in the clear as we'd had no rain at all in 8 of previous 9 days and only 8mm on the other day.

Then on the 29th Oct '20 we got 64mm!

Mind you I'd rather it smashed it down 3 or 4 days in Oct rather than getting 12mm almost every day

I think we're all with you on that. The last few days have been evil by Hua Hin standards. Most certainly the most prolonged period in the 10 years+ that I've lived here. So nice to be back to normal today. Long may it last.

I didn't predict that the wet will stop totally, but whatever comes will be coming from your beach side the way things look.

In the last couple of days I've wheelbarrowed and shovelled 3 tons of crushed rock to get rid of a waterlogged portion of my garden so if that doesn't stop it raining, I don't know what will!

Provinces in the northeastern, eastern and central regions, including Greater Bangkok, are bracing for rain on Friday, with forecasters warning it could exacerbate flooding in the country.

A warning issued by the Meteorological Department on Thursday said low pressure would bring rain to the three regions over the next two days and identified 12 northeastern provinces as at particular risk of downpours.

The provinces most likely to be affected:

Amnat Charoen
Buri Ram
Chaiyaphum
Kalasin
Khon Kaen
Maha Sarakham
Mukdaharn
Roi Et
Si Sa Ket
Surin
Ubon Ratchathani
Yasothorn

The weather agency said the capital and its vicinity would be braced for rain at least until Saturday.

The Royal Irrigation Department on Thursday also added Nakhon Ratchamisma on the affected list because all reserviors in the province can no longer take more water.

Greater Bangkok and provinces in the central plain were at least trying to limit the damage of flooding as the Chao Phraya River burst its banks due to the large volume of water unleashed by the Chao Phraya and Pasak Jolasid dams.

Nonthaburi was one of the most affected provinces as it was taking the level from the Chao Phraya which inundated five districts.

The province erected temporary walls along the river banks but they covered only about 30% of the total length, officials briefed Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha during his visit on Thursday.

The disaster prevention and mitigation office in Nonthaburi said flooding would continue because the high tide met with the rising level of the Chao Phraya.

In Ubon Ratchathani, the disaster prevention and mitigation office said the flooding situation continued in the province because the level of the Moon River remained stable on Thursday.

I’m sure that many of us were glad to see the back of the downpours, but this morning there’s been a considerable drop in temperature and it feels more like it normally does in December and January - I might have to put a long sleeve shirt on soon!!

The drop in temperature was yesterday. It was great watching the footie last night, and I barely broke a sweat walking the lake this morning. Fantastic, but a little chilly sat on the front porch now.

A genuine question this.................

How about you buksi, has the rain stopped down your way yet? There's been a definite change in the weather here, and it seemed pretty consistent through to Ratchaburi yesterday. However, I see Phuket has significant flooding again.
