If a G8 summit happens in Hua Hin area?

Post by The understudy »

Hi there Y'all

In a couple days time the world leaders of the powerfull industrialised Nations will meet in the small resort town of Heiligendamm where a resort Hotel Complex and it's vicinity of 12 Kilometers had been metal fenced and barb wired to protect the meeting World Leaders. Aditional with the fencing which you can enter from two points only, the Seaspace in front of the resort had been declared off limits for 20 Sea Kilometers. And a staggering 16.000 Men Strong Policeforce are taking care for the security in the sealed off Compound and on the roads leading up to the resort, with five checkpoints leading up to it. Airport style security checks are in place for workers of the resort set up a week before the meeting starts. Anybody working in the Hotel or is a supplier must have a special pass issued by the Federal Police in order to enter the Hotel resort during the the times this meeting. The entire cost of the security Apperatus of this Meeting had benn estimated to cost more than 120 Million Euros.
Would this G8 meeting been held in the CAa Am/Hua Hin/Pranburi can we expect security maesures to be in the similar or bigger sclae? How the locala and expats who live in Hua and surrounding area felt about it?

Your's covering it

I'd be up there with the placards asking what the h3ll they were doing to help poorer countries, a la Bono. 8)

Then I'd probably be deported...

I dread to think what the security would be like if something like that was held here. I think it would be the best bet to stock up on food & beer & stay home for the duration.

Yep, Hua Hin grinds to a halt on a long weekend, would hate to see the impact of an international event here.

G8 summits are held in G8 member countries.
Worry about it when Thailand joins the G8.
