Is this a scorpion?

Post by Big Boy »

We've had a few scorpions visit us over the years, but this one looks very different to previous beasties. I've asked Mrs BB what it is, but all she will say if it bites (read stings) you. it will be a trip to the hospital. Of course, everything is deadly to Thais. Mrs BB wanted to kill it, but I said it came on its own, it'll leave the same way. I'm just intrigued to know what it really is, and I know one of you clever guys will know. This is a blown up version of the original. I have the original photo if that would be better.

Yes, the legs look very 'spider'. Another friend has suggested it has lost it's whip (tail), which is why I probably didn't recognise it.

As Buksi said a whip scorpion, also known as a vinegaroon in Texas and surrounding areas. The article doesn't say so but I remember reading they also ate other scorpions.
