One (if not the) greatest goal scorer in British Football - he had a few problems (notably alcohol) but I can remember watching his magic as a youngster. RIP

Sad Day - RIP Jimmy

Post by JimmyGreaves »

My football hero sadly passed away today. Sublime goal scorer. :( So happy that I saw the man during his Spurs playing days.

RIP Jimmy, trust Bobby was at the door to greet you.

I've merged the posts from 2 threads together. An icon of the beautiful game deserves his own thread.

His playing days were well before my time but an obvious legend of the game. Says it all that he's behind only Ronaldo and Messi in goals scored!

RIP Jimmy!

My father always talked of Greaves as being the best Chelsea player he had ever seen. By the time I was old enough to go to games, he had long gone. At my first game at the Bridge, with my father and Uncle, Peter Osgood scored twice. He could have scored 10, my old man would never hear of anyone being better than Greaves.

RIP Jimmy, a genuine legend in an age of hype.

RIP indeed - despite not being a great fan of football, saw a great deal of him on TV (in my earlier and his later days) - "Saint and Greavsie", which was great fun. Saw highlights of him as my eldest brother was a great fan. Seems to have been a great bloke.....

I saw him many times. He was a "lazy" player (didn't do enough defending) but boy could he score goals!
