Last night I saw what I believe were 2 very large bats (pigeon size) flying outside my 5th floor balcony which is in the middle of Hua Hin. They landed in a coconut tree below me.
Any thoughts on species would be appreciated.

They could be fruit bats (flying fox) which are quite numerous in Thailand.

Quite possibly a variety of fruit bat. When I had a bungalow on the beach on south Samui, hordes of them used to fly over at dusk from a small neighbouring island.

We had quite a few when we lived in Bang Saphan. I forget the statistics but they eat a huge amount of mosquitos.
The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.

When I lived in a small town in Florida, the bats lived in a church belfry (seems appropriate) and would come out each evening at dusk. Yes, they do eat a large amount of mosquitoes but never enough.
