It's the same old areas affected time and again, Phimai and the area around the Moon river always flood, not every year, but regularly. Nothing is ever fixed, nothing changes and the people are compliant enough to tolerate it.

34 Thai provinces affected by heavy rains and flooding, typhoon ‘Goni’ heads towards Vietnam

https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/weather ... ds-vietnam

Heavy rain overnight has flooded parts of the Wang Nam Khiao district in southern Nakhon Ratchasima caused by run-off from the mountainous areas of the Thap Lan National Park. At least 1 person has been reported dead from the north eastern floods, an 18 year old swept away by sweeping waves of water while driving back to house by motorcycle last night. A bridge across the Huay Yai Tai stream in the town of Udomsap collapsed during last night’s flash floods.

Meanwhile villagers have been killed and others injured due to flash floods in Surat Thani and another person killed in Trang, southern Thailand due to torrential rains, floods and landslides caused by the tropical storms.

Other people have died in Chanthaburi, Prachin Buri and Singburi province. Affected provinces around Thailand include 6 in the northeastern region, another 6 in the eastern region, 4 in the western region, 9 in the central region and 9 in the southern region.

Around Thailand, as of lunchtime today, a total of 91,641 households in 2,341 villages in 152 districts of 34 provinces have been adversely affected by the affects of tropical storms from October 7 – 31. Typhoon Molave passed over Vietnam and then dropped heaving rain in Central Thailand. The current Typhoon Goni, passing over The Philippines today, will also slam into Vietnam this week and drop even more rain as it continues westward, weakening but creating heavy rain and floods in Laos and Cambodia as well.

Forward forecasts suggest that the weakening storm will pass through Central Thailand with Bangkok officials being put on alert for later this week.

October is traditionally Thailand’s wettest month. Typhoon ‘Goni’ is expected to gain strength as if passes through the South China Sea before reaching Vietnam’s coast sometime late Tuesday, early Wednesday.

Three Korat dams full to capacity

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... o-capacity

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: With flooding still rife in many parts of the province, three major dams already full and more rain expected, any discharge must be carefully managed to prevent further damage, governor Wichian Chantaranothai said on Monday.

On Monday, Lam Takhong Dam in Si Khiu district was holding 360 million cubic metres of water, 114% of its design capacity; Lam Phra Phloeng Dam in Pak Thong Chai district 173 million cubic metres, 111%; and Lam Moon Bon in Khon Buri district 142 million cubic metres, 100%.

Mr Wichian said all dams must be very careful when discharging water. There was a risk that current flooding in areas below the dams could be worsened without proper management.

People living downstream should stay alert. Tropical storm Goni was heading for Vietnam and could bring more heavy rain to the region, he said.

All district chiefs had been instructed to closely follow up the situation to ensure safety in life and property of the people.

Heavy rain, flash flood warnings for South

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... -for-south

https://thepattayanews.com/2020/12/03/a ... yesterday/

https://www.thaienquirer.com/21328/nakh ... imbs-to-7/

Heavy rain and flash flood warnings were issued for all southern provinces except Chumphon and Ranong on Thursday, and small boats were advised to stay ashore until Friday.

The Meteorological Department said the strong northeast monsoon prevailed over the Gulf of Thailand and the South, and a low-pressure cell still covered the lower South.

More heavy rain was likely in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Phangnga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun on Thursday.

People living in at-risk areas, notably foothill slopes and low-lying areas, were told to prepare for downpours that may trigger runoff and flash floods.

Winds in the Gulf and the Andaman Sea were forecast to whip up waves 2-3 metres high, and higher during thundershowers.

All ships in the Gulf should proceed with caution. Small boats were advised to remain ashore.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation on Thursday reported that flooding persisted in seven southern provinces - Surat Thanhi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Trang, Songkhla, Pattani and Narathiwat.

A total of 261,253 households in 2,318 villages of 70 districts in nine southern provinces were affected. Three people had drowned during the storms that have hit the South from Nov 25 to Dec 3. The nine-affected provinces were Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Trang, Satun, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.

Meanwhile, the 4th Army commander has ordered troops to provide assistance to residents in flood-affected southern provinces.

Army deputy spokeswoman Col Sirichan Ngathong said most districts in Nakhon Si Thammarat were flooded.

Soldiers in eight mitigation and disaster prevention centres had been ordered to move quickly to help residents as the water kept rising. Seven main roads in the province were flooded, she said.

Soldiers from the 15th Infantry Regiment were helping evacuate residents to temporary shelters, Col Sirichan said

A total of 230 people from 60 households were taken to Wat Thapho municipal school in Muang district of Nakhon Si Thammarat. More 700 people from 160 households were expected to move to the shelter, she said.

In Surat Thani, many areas were under 30-120cm of water.
