Coronavirus Precautions/News/Updates for Hua Hin/Prachuap

There are several topics concerning Corona virus currently running but I am missing news about Hua Hin. It would be nice to know how many cases there are in Hua Hin. How it has effected Hua Hin. Are there still golf courses that are open? Are the restaurants in the top hotels still open? Please keep answers related to Hua Hin, for other Corona virus comments there are enough other threads running.

For Hua Hin golf courses they are all closed with the exceptions of Springfield,Lakeview & Palm Hills, because they come under Petchaburi Province whilst the others are under Prachuabkirikhan. Lakeview is members only but I am not sure about the other two

f you’re not sick with the new coronavirus, should you wear a mask in public? Global health authorities say no. Amid a shortage of masks, the U.S. is sticking with that advice but Tuesday, President Donald Trump suggested people who are worried wear a scarf.

That shortage is so severe that the Joint Commission, which accredits U.S. hospitals, said Tuesday that if facilities can’t provide proper masks, health workers are allowed to bring their own from home.

Front-line health workers have the greatest need for masks. And when people are sick, wearing a mask helps lessen the chances of infecting others. In places where relatives care for the sick at home, the World Health Organization also has recommended they wear a mask.

But “there is no specific evidence to suggest that the wearing of masks by the mass population has any particular benefit,” Dr. Mike Ryan, the WHO’s epidemics chief, told reporters Monday.

“In fact, there’s some evidence to suggest the opposite,” he added, noting risks from an improperly fitted mask or touching the face while taking it off or putting it on.

I have been reading various articles and it does appear that there are some 'experts' who are beginning to have a change of heart about masks. You are never going to get social distancing of two metres as the norm. It's just not going to happen. Masks go some way to prevent an infected person infecting another. That's good enough for me and in places like the UK, they don't know who is or isn't, so why take a risk?

And I know that this chart is affected by lies, lies and more lies. With the exception of Malaysia on the left and Singapore on the right, SE Asia isn't mentioned.

I've read several of those reports. They're not so much as changing their mind but recognising the failure of the people. The major players (WHO and the like) are sticking to their guns.
The thread running through these reports are pretty much the same. It's agreed that washing hands and social distancing is sound in the measures to protect oneself. Unfortunately, and due to 'human nature', the populace cannot be expected to adhere to social distancing. Because asymptomatic carriers are among us, and that they're ignorant of having the virus, it is regarded as a 'fail safe' to wear a mask to minimise the risk of infection from this group. Social distancing would have the same result. It's in the absence of distancing that masks come into play.
The bottom line is that unless you can guarantee you are social distancing at all times, then wearing a mask will prevent carriers from infecting other people.

I see from the latest briefing from the White House there were 7 people on the podium shoulder to shoulder.
Way to go when you are advocating social distancing

Basically; if you want to wear a mask, wear one. I shall wear one and shoes with socks as well as a long sleeve shirt and a hat but I'm 81 and in a high risk group.

This question is to be assessed by a panel of advisers to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The group will weigh up research on whether the virus can be projected further than previously thought; a study in the US suggests coughs can reach 6m and sneezes up to 8m.

The panel's chair, Prof David Heymann, told BBC News that the new research may lead to a shift in advice about masks.

The former director at the WHO explained: "The WHO is opening up its discussion again looking at the new evidence to see whether or not there should be a change in the way it's recommending masks should be used."

What is the current advice?
The WHO recommends keeping a distance of at least 1m from anyone coughing or sneezing to avoid the risk of infection.

It says people who are sick and show symptoms should wear masks.

But it advises that healthy people only need to wear them if they are caring for others suspected of being infected or if they themselves are coughing or sneezing.

Agreed, but surely that's based upon unguarded coughs and sneezes. If the public were more considerate, then people with such coughs and sneezes would not be out in the public.
Unfortunately, the public in general cannot be trusted to follow these simple rules. Especially the younger ones who know that they won't be seriously ill with the virus and are inconsiderate of everyone else.

With all the restrictions in place around Hua Hin at the moment with food courts and other eating establishments closed, social distancing etc it seems not much has changed with the workers compound on soi 102 with 40 or 50 gathered together every morning, some heading to nearby shops and eventually 40 or so cramming onto the back of a transport vehicle to go to work which seems to go on unabated on a daily basis. Somewhat at odds to social separation.

Yes, there was a pickup full of workers at my local mom n pop store this morning, only needs one to be infected to potentially thousands at risk.
