The government said it took the move due to the “worsening epidemiological situation” in China.
However, if figures are to be believed, it's not worsening but improving with a drop in the number of currently infected. Noted by WHO but also point out that it's still early days.

The first thought in my head, and perhaps many others as well, is that Russia knows something that we don't. It wouldn't be a surprise as Putin and Xi seem to have a very friendly relationship. No conspiracy theory on my part, just logical thinking.

All remaining 781 passengers of the Westerdam cruise ship moored in Cambodia have tested negative for coronavirus.
There is something not quite right about this 83 year old being tested positive in KL. No other passengers tested positive, not even her husband.
Is it possible to be in contact with the virus one day and prove positive the next day. If so, maybe she caught it after leaving the ship.

The Foreign Office has advised Britons to stay on the infected Diamond Princess Cruise ship in Japan - they may not be able to board the evacuation flight later this week if they disembark.
Meanwhile, concerns continue to be raised over how the virus was able to spread so rapidly on the ship, with one expert describing infection control on board as “chaotic”.
Another 79 passengers on board were diagnosed with the infection - taking the total to 621.
A British couple on the ship will not be able to join the evacuation flight as they have tested positive for the virus.
China has expelled three Wall Street Journal reporters from the country over what Beijing deemed a racist headline in the paper.
South Korea confirmed 20 new cases in the country, taking the total infected to 51.
Iran confirmed its first two coronavirus cases.
China is taking steps to stimulate production in manufacturing hubs by easing infection control measures. [PH] Seems somewhat counter-productive......
The final passengers disembarked from the MS Westerdam cruise ship in Cambodia, after all tested negative for the Covid-19 virus.

Israel ban irks Thailand
Thailand has called on Israel to review its decision to ban Thais from entering the country in a bid to control the spread of deadly coronavirus (Covid-19).

As a result of the ban, the Labour Ministry will have to postpone sending Thai workers to Israel under the employment cooperation project between the two countries. The situation is being assessed daily.

According to the Thai embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel's Population and Immigration Authority has barred entry to anyone who visited Thailand, Macau, Singapore and Hong Kong during the past 14 days, said Natapanu Nopakun, deputy spokesman of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Previously, Israel's health ministry had imposed a 14-day house quarantine on visitors from Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau.

Thailand should have thought about that and considered its own travel restrictions ... before getting 'irked' by other countries reciprocating.

I'm no great at maths but it seems to me that daily deaths from Flu nearly outnumber the total number of deaths thus far from Coronavirus.

Seasonal flu kills 291,000 to 646,000 people worldwide each year, according to a new estimate that's higher than the previous one of 250,000 to 500,000 deaths a year.

The new figures from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other groups were published Dec. 13 in The Lancet medical journal.

This year's flu vaccine is "not a very good match" for a common strain of the flu that's especially tough on children, according to the nation's top infectious disease doctor.

It's no secret that 'flu is one of the world's most killer viruses.

THAILAND’S WORST-CASE PLAN FOR CORONAVIRUS REVEALED

https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/cri ... -revealed/

BANGKOK — Military field hospitals and closure of facilities like schools and prisons will be introduced if the coronavirus epidemic took a turn for the worse, a government source said Thursday.

The contingency plan for an uncontrollable spread of the virus was approved by the Cabinet during its Tuesday’s meeting, according to the source. The plan was drafted in case the infection rate reaches as high as 1,000 cases per day and results in deaths, a scenario named by the officials as “Phase 3.”

Measures for “Phase 3” outbreak include setting up military field hospitals in schools, ordering people to work from home, postponing or canceling large public gatherings, and designating emergency disaster zones in areas that are particularly affected.

Crowded facilities like schools, prisons, and military bases will also be shut down in order to contain the virus under the plan.

Thailand currently reports 35 cases of coronavirus infections so far, 17 of which have already recovered and were discharged from hospital, health officials said.

Another government meeting will be held to lay down preparation plans for the disease, whose official name is Covid-19, on Feb. 21.
