Bangkok Hotel Recommendation(s)

Post by pharvey »

I've not stayed in Bangkok for some time - generally only being an airport hotel when we have an early hours flight.

Our next trip, however, includes my mother and sister, the latter of which would love to see Bangkok for a few days before heading down to our place in HH. Looking for a decent hotel but not crazy prices - any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

[EDIT] Years ago, I used to stay at a hotel (forget the name) which was superb. Connected to a "Shopping Mall" with a wonderful "Food Level" (multiple stores, great food at reasonable prices - posh street food if you will).

I have a feeling it was this Mall that suffered a huge fire going back several years?

Check out the above. Two shopping malls attached on either side of Sukhumvit at Soi 24, a variety of upscale food courts with good western food, and BTS right outside the door that you can take to go anywhere.

The wife and daughter stayed there a few weeks ago but I don't know the cost as it was a school thing and they didn't pay for it.

There may be some deals coming as low season arrives.

Direct access to BTS is for me very important.

I used ON8 many times, allways being happy. At Nana station.

What's not a crazy price? International engineer should not be concerned about the price. :rasta:

Migrant asked the same question recently, maybe worth checking with him. The following is within sight of where I live, has a BTS station at the front door, away from the noise and crowds closer to the city centre, 500 metres to the expressway on / off ramp from the airport and about 1 Km to the expressway to Hua Hin. I have not used it myself, but it is relatively new and looks good from the outside. Besides, it has me as a Neighbour! 8)

The Chatrium isn't cheap, buut another good thing about it's location, is the park right in front of it, with only Emporium's service road to cross to get to it. Emquartier on the other side of the BTS must have some of the best dining in Bkk, with several floors at the top of one building, which you can walk around from floor to floor to floor via a ramp, or use escalators and lifts, it also has a great outdoor garden that covers the entire 5th floor (about 7th or 8th floor in reality) and two roof top pubs which sell food. In the basement, there are also some great eating options (where I eat often when in Bkk). And both Malls have supermarkets.

Ibis, opposite National Stadium BTS. I've paid 1000-12000BHT, depending on the season. If you want it you can pay a bit extra and have breakfast. There's a wide variety of Thai and Western foods.

Has been suggested to look at a suite with a double and twin room. Have also remembered the name of the hotel I used to stay at... "Pathumwan Princess Hotel" next door/connected to the MBK Center - great food level from what I remember, but this being years back.

The Chatrium is actually a suites hotel, as is their smaller and cheaper place in Sukhumvit soi18, so just a few minutes walk to Asok BTS. Which I have stayed at a few times and it was renovated a couple of years back.

This one looking good with regards to suite and 2 x rooms. Can you remember the Mall names? Have tried an Internet search, but can't find yet.

https://www.emporium.co.th/en/directory/

That link will give you a picture of the Emporium Shopping complex, and the Emquartier Shopping complex across from it. Click on the numbers and letters at the top of the pages to see maps of each floor and names of what's there. Find "Visit To Emquartier" in the left column at the bottom, and click on that and then on "Directory" for an identical map/listing for that location.

Also check out https://www.emporium.co.th/en/shopping/ and https://www.emquartier.co.th/shopping/

I have stayed at the Park Plaza Soi 18 Sukhumvit . Close to Terminal 21 mall and metro. Its a modern hotel with great breakfast and facilities. Generally about 2000 baht

Book direct for best and guaranteed unbeatable price .
Visit Bangkok 2/3 times a year and always , since it opened , stay here before travelling on

Thanks for the confirmation. The ladies loved it for the shopping, my father and I for the "Happy Hour Lounge"... We all loved the food outlets on the 6th!!
