Hutsadin Elephant Foundation Celebration

Post by Big Boy »

Hutsadin Elephant Foundation have a free event on Tuesday 12th March.

You are invited to join us from 10.00 to celebrate elephant day with our family of 6 elephants, mahout staff & volunteers when there will be lots of opportunities to take wonderful photos of our 6 elephants enjoying a feast fit for a king. This is a very special day for us which we would like to share with you. There is no entrance fee until 11.00 when we expect the feast will be finished although we will happily accept any donations to our land appeal, with which we have plans to build a proper bathing pool for our elephants to enjoy, & our small souvenir shop will be open.

Please come along & join us from 10.00. Our normal paid activities of walking & showering the elephants will resume at 11.30 hope to see you there

I would hope elephant rides are not part of the activities.

The elephants at Hutsadin are treated with the utmost respect. This is a charity, looking after elephants. A sort of care home. We've had friends go there, and they walked with the elephants.

As BB said, the elephants are very well taken care of and there are definitely no rides - we went with my son and his wife and my granddaughter in the summer 2017 and other than the heat, it was a great experience

I only went once back in January 2014 and there was still elephant riding....happy to hear they amended their offer!

Cheers,

The seat rides were stopped Oct 2017. A walk is one of the actvities but there is also a bareback ride. One person and the mahout. Whilst we are trying to stop the bareback rides it will take time. As we all know things take time in Thailand.

Its about educating the tourists too. If they want to bareback its a matter of demand and surply. Our goal is to just do the walking activity but as I have said in time. But hopefully in the very near future.

Great place and the elephants looked after.
My daughter came for my 60th birthday,[5 years ago]they were still permitting rides then, disappeared with the Mahout for a 45 minute trek into the local jungle, returned sitting between the elephants ears, the mahout walking in front taking video, fantastic, commercialised, but an experience to treasure for a lifetime.
The young elephant that was there, not so young now,but watch the interaction between mahout and the elephant, quite amazing to see.Apparently the mother rejected the calf when born and spent most of its early life sleeping with the handler who took care of it on a day to day basis. Not been for a while, will venture up there on the 12th.

I can understand the problem with 'seat rides'. Carrying that cumbersome seating contraption can't be comfortable and in the elephant's interest.
However, what is the difference between a single person riding an elephant and a rider on horseback.

I'm sure someone will educate me.

Elephant, horse and camel riding exist since centuries.
