When it was based on a monthly income it wasn't a problem. Now I don't what I'm going to do, maybe Immigration will clarify things n the not too distant future. Who knows?

My remark about 'creeping out" was based, I admit, on one couple. In their case it was the Thai wife, who had lived in theUS for 20+ years, who insisted that they return as she disliked the disorder of Thailand. Of all the critics that I have heard complaining about Thailand, she was number one.They left after three years here and said no goodbyes. Sold their condo, gone within a week.

You originally said there was one exception to your creeping out quietly remark (hhfarang), and now you're saying there is in fact only one couple who did creep away quietly - then why didn't you just say that in the first place? Why did you say hhfarang was the exception, when your sneak-away couple were the exception?

Feel free to blame my poor English language skills (again!) but I am quite lost.

And as for why the couple you mention crept away without informing the Hua Hin Forum, well, it might be an 'out there' idea, but maybe just because they can, and because no one owes an internet forum a reason to relocate?

Many long standing prolific posting forum members have left over the years and not needed to explain why and that’s as it should.

People have there own reason why they leave a country to return home, I for one, don’t expect any explanation, nor
would I ask for one, it’s none of my business.

A friend and schoolmate of mine who lives in Issan is returning to Scotland. He used to work in S;pore and vacation in Thai, he met a Thai lady, had 2 children with her and built a house in Issan. They spent a month in Scotland each summer, but last year his sister was very ill and they stayed until C'mas. The 2 girls went to a small school in the Highlands, the kids loved the school and the Thai mother was very impressed with the school too. So now, SHE is insisting that they move back to Scotland so the girls can get a good education. In fact he is in Thai alone trying to sell up and pack up and his Thai family is all in Scotland.

I see much has been said regarding some of the reasons why people choose to leave, such as the cost of living, declining exchange rate, health concerns, all of which are very valid reasons. However, let's not forget that a large number will inevitable want to leave after a certain number of years because, well they become grumpy old buggers who start to dislike or even hate everything about Thailand, perhaps, in many cases, because they finally start realizing that Thai is not going to change into a Western society, and the Thai people are not going to suddenly start doing things they way Westerners do.

As I've said, not everyone leaves for this reason, but many do, and to be honest, I wish many others in the "grumpy old git" category would would get the hell out of Thailand as well. Yes, we all have our rants and our bad days, but if every day in Thailand is a bad day for you, then please, make the right choice and leave, for your own sake, as well as for the sake of those who constantly have to listen to the same old complaints day in and day out.

I don't know about grumpy, but I've never lived in the same place for more than 5 year.

Whether it be USA, moved about 15 times in 25 yrs, or Thailand. 4 moves here so far, in 18 years, and at least one more. Though after next house built, can see ever selling. May rent elsewhere, and use here as a base, if we get bored.

Here is a generalization and there are obvious exceptions. The Scandinavians,esp Swedish people, have been coming to HH for decades. They do not 'move' here, do not sell their houses back home and are snowbirds coming usually for 4-6 months to escape the Nordic winter, I suspect that when travel becomes more difficult they just stop coming, no great decision, just move on. They are good for Thai, again generally they do not complain, after all they have not committed in any way to Thai or HH. They are well behaved, spend lots of money and their State medical insurance plans are effective here
