First came to HH in 1989 for a two week holiday. Was spoiled to death at the Royal Gerden Village - now Anantaria. Loved the country and vowed to come back. Took 6 years and then again only for a three week holiday.
After another 3 years of drudgery in the UK, I jacked the job in and moved over full time. Ran a bar for the first 2.5 years - nearly killed me - and have done nothing since except enjoy myself - most of the time!!!
April 26th will be my 7th anniversary. Dosn't time fly when you're having fun?

In 2000 my Thai wife and I decided to backpack from Bangkok to the Malaysian border. First stop H-H. Stayed 3 months and never got any further south. Been back every year. This September will be buying property with intention on permanent move in 2007. My wife feels that
H-H is becoming too popular and that real estate prices are climbing. Will be investigating Kanchanaburi and Udon Thani to get a guide. Any thoughts on these two locations as areas to lreside?

Have been residing in LOS since 1988, based in Bangers. The first year here was mainly shuttling between Bangkok and Chiangmai. Found HH sometime around 1990, as my wife is connected to aviation and had many friends at the airport.

We still make it up twice to three times a year with the kids and extended family. The Jazz festival is definitely a fixture on my calendar! :D

Moved from USA to Chiang Mai in early 2003. Visited HH for a few days last year with my (ex)lover, enjoyed the beach. Came back last Thursday and saw the place my former neighbor was renting. 27 hours later, I rented the place next door. Am moving permanently in three more weeks.

1st visited in 2000, been back 3 times since. I'm pretty well travelled and do you know what it felt like to realise that I had finally found the place I was looking for? I'm not really interested in going anywhere else now. Don't know what it is? Maybe the interaction with the locals and the low keyness of it all? Its certainly not the prettiest of places but maybe that's all part of the attraction.

Looking to buy for future use - but not a condo and not on an estate.

Will be back shortly.

I'll be looking out for the weekly drinking session!!

We now live in Phetchaburi, so we are frequent "day" visitors to HH (once or twice every month).

Previously, when we lived in [many other places], we were weekend visitors to HH, perhaps 3-4 times per year for about 8 years.

We are very happy to see that over that extended period it has not lost any of its charm. We're not sure whom to thank, but we feel it's quite likely that the much revered gentleman who lives in the very large house is the true guardian of HH's soul.

I first came to HH purely by chance, as I had gone in to see my friendly travel agent in Glasgow and asked for "anywhere interesting" she could send me ! I got billeted in the Hilton for 10 days in Jan 2003 and felt it was a bit too formal for what I needed, not that it wasn't quite enjoyable, with a lovely pool, room with sea-view etc, so the following year (2004) I shopped around on this website and got a house in the sportvilla complex for 3 weeks over New Year and into January with my newly-cultivated thai girlfriend. We went to Koh Samui for the middle week and found it very commercialised. :?

I again leased the Sport Villa house for three weeks in 2005 immediately in the wake of the Tsunami. I had planned to "do" Krabi, Phuket and Phi-Phi but for obvious reasons, we abandoned that plan and just stayed in Hua Hin. I was amazed at how quickly the days and weeks went in, and was really quite depressed at having to go back to work. :(

My flights are already booked for my next trip in Late December 2005, for 3.5 weeks this time, planning to go south and east from Bangkok, very briefly via Pattaya, to Koh Samet and Koh Chang, again with my girlfriend-cum tourguide/translator. :D

Like Gin & Tonic (no lime), I retire in 2007 from a long carreer in the UK as a Chartered Surveyor (FRICS) in commercial property, investment and development, and certainly plan longer and more frequent visits to Thailand as time and family commitments allow. Hua Hin is indeed a very likely base, but I still have to see around before I can finally make my mind up ! :?

Cheers, guys - nil illigitimii carborundum.

Hi bircow

OY did work out of the villa last December. I was quoted (if I recall correctly) 7000 baht per month for one of the small condos in the main building. Water and electricity were extra. I eventually stayed somewhere else, so I can't comment on the 'experience' of staying there.
