Sleeping Meds
Does anyone know of any good over the counter sleeping medication. I have had sleeping problems for a while but recently no matter how tired I am I still cannot get a decent sleep. I know I could get pills at the Hospitals after seeing a Doctor, but I hate paying the OTT prescription rates and other charges.
Re: Sleeping Meds
Get ''MELATONIN' over the counter. 3mg is enuf but also available in 5mg. A natural substance also produced in your body or skin that tells your brain that the sun has gone down and its time to sleep. Cheap everyplace except Thailand and might even be difficult to find in HH but easy in Bkk - maybe mail order..?

Mail order from iherb.com.
If you have trouble falling asleep take 1, 30 mins. before you want to sleep. You have to do it every night at the same time. If you have trouble staying asleep, take 1 at bedtime. Again be consistent with the time.
If you buy tablets get the 5 mg., break it in half and start with that. If it doesn't work within 3 days, increase the dosage to 1 tablet. For some people it may take 10 mg. until your body creates a new pattern. If it doesn't work within 30 days it's not going to work. Natrol is an inexpensive brand. They all work the same so there's no need to buy the most expensive brand.

Re: Sleeping Meds
I used to use Temazepan 5 or 10 mg nightly, but my NHS GP stopped them back in February. He said it is no longer considered safe to use on a long term basis!
I’d been on them for over 10 years, but all of a sudden it’s not safe to use.
Yet to find another drug that enables me to get off to sleep easily, that doesn’t have side effects.
I think it’s to do with costs, but can’t be sure as even my private doctor won’t prescribe them, even if I pay for them.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Lazada has melatonin products, some reputable. I ordered 365 pills (3mg) for around 600 baht last year.

Thanks for the help and I think I will order some Melatonin from Lazada today if I cannot find locally.

Same here in Holland. You'll get a week's worth of benzos at most. My friend is very afraid of flying. Her gp prescribed TWO diazepam. Can't be cost related either (here) as they're not covered by our national medical insurance. Friend paid €15 for her two pills.Khundon1975 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 20, 2018 1:08 am I used to use Temazepan 5 or 10 mg nightly, but my NHS GP stopped them back in February. The Melatonin in the pharmacist in Hua Hin is all the same.. 2mg for around 600 baht ( 15 tabs )
It's so much cheaper buying them online from Lazada etc. I just brought 100 tabs 5 mg timed release, for about 800 baht. Probably could get them even cheaper, but this was a good brand and reliable company for delivering.

I didn't think you could buy Xanax over the counter. Any Pharmacies in particular and rough idea of the price?
Re: Sleeping Meds
I would steer away from naming the pharmacies in question as it's completely illegal to sell over the counter (though a couple still do).
Naming would lead to a shut down. No more xanax for anyone. :-)

If you go to the hospital (bkk or hua hin hospital) and let them know you are suffereing from 'insomnia' they will give 30 days worth of diazepam/aprozalem (valium/xanax) at a time.
Depending on dosage, bkk hospital will be roughy 1500 baht for month's prescription. The doctor's, fee is quite high - I believe 800 baht. Hua Hin Hospital will be around 700 baht all in. To get them over the counter will cost minimum 300 baht for 10 - so 900 baht for the month.
Because they are addictive, mind altering drugs you will be asked to attend an appointment with the psychiatrist which is painless. You just let him/her know that you struggle to rest in hot, humid foreign country.
Hospitals/doctors in Europe and America no longer offer these drugs due to their addictiveness but some of us find them as a good option without side effects.
