Tailors

Post by Kraka's Dad »

Now just what has happened to them ??
They used to hassle you every time you went past, would not take a polite "No thank you" and would be almost agressive and rude to you if you did not go in.
This trip they were all almost pleasant and took "No thank you" and left you alone.
Has someone had a word with them ??
If so not before time.

I found them bloody annoying when I was there. If they have cleaned up their act that's definitely a good thing.

I think that you just should visit enough many times there that they remember you, then they maybe let you go. I am there only 2-3 times per year but still I don't have any problems with them. Just smile back to them and take your little-John out and say: Special price 5000 THB, only for you.. Bad joke sorry  But it depends when you go, low or high season etc...

Have been going twice a year for the last 4 years and they have been a pain every time until this time.

It was just me they were not hassling anyone.

I have lived here five and a half years & pass their shops day in day out & they still hassle me, so it makes no difference whether they know you or not. One tried to catch my arm to pull me back 2 days ago. He was stopped short by a glare, but in my experience they haven't got any better. They really are one of my pet hates about Hua Hin... :cuss:

I know what you mean Dawn they are one of my pet hates too but while I was there we had no problems with them. Maybe they thought I was so well dressed they could not help me or perhaps that I was beyond help with my dress sense?

If you drive a motorbike, they don't bother you, it's only when you walk because then they think you're a tourist.

We don't live in HH, so don't have to put up with that hassle. However, today we were there and Mr.P does need some shirts (he's not Thai size, so has to get them tailor-made).
Got approached by an Indian by Satukarn Square. How much? 600 Baht. Ok, same price as the ones we bought in Bangkok. He took us to the shop - lots of choice of shirt material - good. I picked out a suitable colour for Mr. P. "Oh, that's new stock, but as you live here and you can tell all your friends about us, we'll do you a special price". Wait for it.....750 baht! Do you think the Indians understand the phrase "You're havin' a laugh"? Hmmm... just about to walk out and the other man in the shop said "OK, special price 600 baht". Not that special, just tammadar. How many do you want? Just the one. At this point Mr. 'Grab you off the street' was not as polite or smiley as he was initially. I'll keep you posted, when we've picked up the paltry one shirt. We've already told them that if that one fits OK, then they'll probably have an order for five more. I don't know if they really care...
Madame (I hate being called that) "A silk dress for you?" No, I don't go anywhere where a silk dress would be appropriate or appreciated. We'll be back in two weeks. "OK. See you tomorrow" Grrrr...

Tailor Touts

Post by FutureResident »

I tell you about my reputation and tailor touts. Along Beach Road in Patong they are the worst. I'm a big guy...6'2 250lbs and exercise almost daily. One night whilst headed out on the hunt one grabbed me and actually ripped my shirt. I guess they are like window washers in New York, He said there was a new shirt in his shop.....Wrong. I scooped up the little punjab mendicant like a sack of rice and hailed the nearest copper....Claiming assult and damages they took him into custody since he didn't have the 2000 baht on his person the copper judged to be what he owe me, plus 10% to the fuzz of course.. He got pinched for no passport etc. Seems the little bugger was on about 3 years overstay, like most of them! Short of the story is that if they come out into the public street and touch you get the coppers and off they go. Unitll the Farang stand up for being Farang this kind of crap will flourish!......... BTW, the shop the lil bastard touted for was directed to provide me with a new shirt. When I went in for pick up there were three waiting..... Good, I got one over on the *deleted* One up for the Farang!

Well, FutureResident, you're really making me earn my "moddy stars" this morning, aren't you? 3 posts of yours, I've had to edit because of hate speech & I haven't even had a cup of coffee yet. I'm not going to make any comments on your personality, I'm sure others will do that. What I will say is: There is no place for your racism or homophobic tirades (or any other nasty little hate you have) on this forum Have you got that?

'no thanks mate, im a builder'

Ugh, I hate them too. Every time, I go to town and walk down Petchkasem, I get bothered by them.

Seriously, if I want a dress or anything, I will COME INSIDE YOUR SHOP. If I'm not walking in your shop, then obviously, I don't want a dress.
It's a small world after all...
