twice I have had similar in Thai airports, this year in the smoking lounge in BKK Suv airport, I was the only non-Chinese in that particular smoking lounge ... the behaviour, the noise, the lack of basic manners, the littering, the spitting, the screaming at eachother.... would have put any half-addict off for life.centermid7 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2017 10:20 am Indeed, they don't even need to leave the airport!
I was into Swampy and was in the downstairs food court not so long ago and my guess that a couple of planes had landed not only from China but Russia as well (?). Honest to Gawd you needed a whip and chair to have handled that mob. The yelling and pushing were a sight. The disgust of the staff in the various food stalls was plain to see.
Upon leaving I felt like I need a a good washing up!
The year before In Phuket airport, I was in the business class lounge and an elderly German gentleman who had stayed in our hotel approached me and asked (practically begged) in very broken English if I would accompany his disabled wife to the smoking lounge as she was "scared" to go alone and they had so much hand luggage that he couldn't go with her while carting all the luggage. I didn't get the scared bit but was happy enough to go along with the old lady. My god. That lounge was hell on earth. I could totally understand why the old German lady was afraid. It *was* intimidating.
I brave smoking lounges in every country I travel from, they are never "nice" places, but I usually manage at the very least 4 cigs in 3 hours. The 2 examples above I made do with a few puffs of 1. And I relate completely to your feeling of needing a good scrub afterwards. The big ashtrays.... (heave) .... was covered in spit... except not normal spit.... the green gooey globby kind. Absolutely vile experience. Literally nothing on earth holds me back from smoking. "Where there's a will there's a way" is my motto. But a smoking lounge filled with Chinese tourists I have now discovered is the first sure fire way for me to leave the cigs in my bag !
