Writing workshop

Post by GoodLunch »

Hello All,

I'm a faculty member of the New York Writer's Workshop and a teacher at one of our local universities....

A few of us have talked about holding adult creative writing classes on campus early evenings or weekends. The classes would focus on story development (through discussions, lectures, and exercises) as well as critique and commentary of novels, short stories, memoirs--whatever you'd like to bring. We would also talk about publishing, agents, and query letters. If there is enough interest we could also arrange editors and agents to visit for pitch workshops, talks, etc…

If you are at all interested or have a question would you send an email to: huahinworkshop(at)gmail.com

I realize I've left out lots of detail, but please consider this an informal and friendly survey...

Cheers

Hi,
I am interested in the Writers Workshop. I could not attend on the weekends, but a weeknight would be good for me. Let me know the outcome.

If you don't mind a 40-something lady cramping your style count me in! My first novel - how to get back at your husband who runs off with a young Thai girl!I suppose that's already been done :-(

Blood: I'm sure they won't mind how old you are, or your gender. Attitude is probably more important - if it's a workshop, then it's listen and learn and exchange ideas.

I'm also a 40 something and if I had more time, I'd love to come along. Unfortunately, a full-time job with endless exams means that any free time is sacred (and rare!).

Good luck with your project.

V.S.

P.S. Do you mean the Webster campus next to Silpakorn, or is there another one in Cha-am?

Same problem for me, VS. What the heck is free time?  :D

I like to think that being 40 means I have something worthwhile to say- at least after 5 or 6 drafts and I love the pitch btw...what happens next makes all the difference.

Yes, we're talking about Webster right across from Silpakorn. I suppose I'll end up drawing a map with x's for huge potholes and y's for strolling cows.

Bad news is I do have to ask for some money-- 6,000 baht to be exact. I convinced our new rector to open the campus and library nights. He agreed on this one little condition....

Registration also allows you to check out books, chat with the young folk and surf the Internet.

Silly me, I didn't realise that this was a course run by the university. I thought it was an informal free-for-all.
If I did have the time, the cost is a little steep - 6,000 baht for 18 hours. I can chat with young folk all day, and have Internet access at home and at work.
But good luck... :)

I did post something here for people who would like to write the odd anecdote once in a while:
