Aroi Corner Restaurant on Canal Road

Post by Houdi »

Just tried the Aroi Restaurant on the canal road.

Delicious food - probably the tastiest Thai Food we have had. So good that we went back with friends two days later.

Located on the Canal Road at the traffic lights halfway between Palm Hills and Soi 6. Need to turn off the canal road as parking is at the rear of the restaurant.

Nung, the owner will give you a warm welcome and she speaks good English too.

Good prices, good portions, good choice. Give it a try if you like delicious Thai food.

If you are travelling from Palm Hills towards Soi 6, is the restaurant on the left or right hand side of the canal road? Thanks

Thanks, I travelled along the canal road and found it on the left hand side but it's a fair way before you reach Soi 6

We went in the other night as we could do with another "favourite" restaurant fairly close to Palm Hills. We found it no problem, travelling from Palm Hills towards town, it is on the left hand side just before the first traffic lights. For parking turn left at the traffic lights and immediately left again to get along to their car park.

The place is clean and tidy. "Oy" (turns out she is the owner) greeted us and chatted away in good English. I was pleased to hear that they do deliveries to Palm Hills and surrounding areas, big bonus if food is any good.

Well, I have to say the food was excellent, we shared some spring rolls for a starter, followed by seabass in pepper sauce and a tom yung goong. I couldn't fault any of it, and the prices were reasonable, on a par with most of the other cheap and cheerful places I like to eat at.

After we finished eating Oy's boyfriend introduced himself, he's a nice chap from Southampton. He offered to buy us a drink, but we had other things to attend to, so had to decline his offer. Talking of drink, my wife had a banana shake which she reckons is the best she's tasted, which is saying something.

If I lived in town I wouldn't travel out just for a meal, but for people towards the north of town, and surrounding area, it is well worth a visit. We'll definitely be back on a regular basis. One last point, they are closed every Wednesday.

I think the other side is just the klong! Catch your own seafood..... lol

I live on the south side of town and would/will try it. Passed it many times. If I can make a trip to Aroy in Cha-am, then I can certainly try this 'Aroy'. Definite plan for this coming week.

Regret to say that Aroi Restaurant will close at the end of August.

We have been enjoying their excellent Thai Food for well over a year. Seems that the owner of the land has decided he wants it back - after the team running Aroi Corner built the restaurant and installed electricity and plumbing of course.

Their contract still has well over a year to run but he has given them no option. So another good restaurant near us bites the dust. They had a good customer base for eat in dining and Takeaway. Good staff now looking for work. As for compensation..................You've guessed it.

Oh Well TIT

Off topic, but close:

There is a large Aroi restaurant (maybe no relation) just before Vana Nava on the way out of HH going south.

It's only frequented by Thais (and me) on my visits, sometimes some live acoustic music. Food (and big bottles of Chang) really good and well priced.

I'd rather go there than a place full of farang (Moonsmile and Platoo comes to mind).

Not sure what relevance there is to eating with Thai's or farangs, but do you go at weekends or during the week? Been meaning to try it, but my other half says it's getting poor reviews for service and quality at weekends on Thai sites and the word is to go during the week when it's quieter.

Surely the relevance is that as a rule of thumb I have been told many times that busy places where nationals are eating their own food means good food. Not that they are the only places, but it's taken as a sign.

I've been weekday evenings. It's been busy but service fast. I didn't go for a few weeks though. Yes the Bangkok Thais crowd the place at weekends so may put some strain on their standards.

Ah well, you didn't actually say that. I think with Bangkokian weekenders, there's also an element of being seen in what is deemed the right places at that particular moment in time!

Anyway, your feedback is helpful, as it ties in with what Thai's themselves are saying, so thanks for that. It's just a pity that on this occasion, my other half is just here for the weekend. So we'll give it a go another time.

I agree with comment about the Aroi Restaurant near the water park. My wife says it's only Thai food and not that good. Full of the Hi-So's from BKK at the weekend. I've not been myself so I don't have a personal opinion.

I've been a couple of times on a weekend and wouldn't identify the clientele as hi-so's. No Porches/Mercs in the car park. A big coach or two sometimes... :)
