Re: Photos: Major flooding in Bangsaphan
Finally back online after almost 3 days with no electric or water. The govt shut down the supply to the entire area for safety purposes, we were showering in rain water which obviously was in abundance. In all the years I have lived here I've never seen such relentless rainfall - 9 days 24/7 non-stop torrential downpour. Bangsaphan Yai town is still under at least a meter of water, roads in and out are not passable and the only bridge connecting us to the outside world is about to collapse. More video and photos to follow, the damage is insurmountable.

Bailey bridges in place, Phetkasem reopened

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN - Temporary bridges have been placed over the ends of two bridges on Phetkasem Highway, which had been cut off by strong currents, enabling traffic on the highway to resume from early Wednesday, the Highways Department announced.
The first Bailey bridge was built over the opening at one end of Nong Ya Plong bridge at kilometre marker 365 in tambon Chai Kasem of Bang Saphan district. The work was completed at 3.10am.
The second bridge was done 20 minutes later over the opening at one end of Wang Yao bridge on Highway 4 at kilometre marker 386 in tambon Thong Mongkol in Bang Saphan district.
The two bridges each provide one lane for southbound traffic and another for Bangkok-bound traffic.
The work was carried out by bridge repair and maintenance teams from Pathum Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Re: Photos: Major flooding in Bangsaphan
I have guests that are trying to go from Hua Hin to Chumphon by bus. We heard the highway was reopened so checked at the bus station twice today, trying to buy tickets for tomorrow. Both times we were told to come back tomorrow at 9am to check if the buses are running. We tried to purchase tickets but were told we could not, to return tomorrow morning. We are confused, if the road is reopened, why aren't the buses running again ? Anyone know what the situation is ?

A bunch of photos posted on Bangkok Post website. What a bloody mess! I often wonder which is worse with these types of events, flooding or fire.

The next round of storms predicted for next week are to stay further south, so they say. Let's hope so to give them a chance to clean up and repair. Pete

36 dead, one missing in floods, many homeless
http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... y-homeless
Thirty-six people are confirmed dead and one is still missing in the floods that have hit 12 southern provinces since Jan 1, with devastated communities in many areas struggling to repair damage so they can resume their lives.
The floods have taken their toll on 1.2 million people of 403,478 households in 5,244 villages in 119 districts of the 12 provinces, causing damage to 17 government installations and 592 roads, 106 bridges, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department chief Chatchai Promlert said on Thursday.
The situation has eased in four provinces: Yala, Ranong, Pattani and Narathiwat.
Flooding lingers in Phatthalung, Songkhla, Trang, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Chumphon, Krabi and Prachuap Khiri Khan.
Hardest hit was Nakhon Si Thammarat, with 23 districts flooded and nine people killed, followed by Surat Thani where floods hit 17 districts with six people reported killed.
In Prachuap Khiri Khan, about 2,000 households in Bang Saphan district have been badly hit by flooding
Ban Khlong Loi village in tambon Ronthong was the worst hit area. Many families have been forced out of their homes and rubber plantations inundated. Several power poles were uprooted, causing widespread blackouts.
Mukda Prakorbpran, one of affected residents at Ban Khlong Loi Village Moo 8, said flooding struck her community on Jan 9 following days of torrential rain. Runoff streamed into her house, which was flooded in just a few minutes, she said. Her family did not have time to move their valuables or belongings from the flooded house.
Prasit Ketsaeng, assistant head of Village Moo 8, said a strong current and a huge volume of runoff made it impossible for residents to move their belongings to higher ground in time. Now, the faced huge problems and there was still no electricity.
