If the sun re-appears anytime in the next 9 hours, panic. :D

Have drained the excess from my pool twice today already. Can't gauge the rainfall accurately as the is some runoff to the pool from surrounding hard standing but must be close to 220mm so far.

We've mentioned several times on here that when someone visits Kaeng Krachan the reservoir is never full. It has been in the past as you can see the water marks high up on the banks, but it must be a decade or more since it was at that level. After this set of storms if someone visits take a pic and perhaps we'll all be surprised to see it full or close to it. Pete

Yes, it's reached its claws over here to the east side now. Power off and on all night, TOT fiber internet out and using a cell phone connection at the moment, hard rain since about 2000 hours and from what I can judge in the dark sois mostly underwater in the immediate area. Pete

Flash flood hits main road to South

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... d-to-south

"Drivers to the southern region have been advised to take extreme caution as part of Phetkasem Road in Prachuap Khiri Khan was flooded on Monday.

The central province was hit by torrential rain and a runoff, while many southern provinces were still battered by flooding, which ravaged the region since the new year and claimed at least 21 lives.

A flash flood struck Bang Saphan and Thap Sakae districts in Prachuap Khiri Khan on Monday afternoon mainly from the runoff from the Tanaosi mountain bordering Myanmar.

Bang Saphan district chief Sakarin Tumsen said the water level was up to 50 centimetres high in some locations on the highway to the South.

Bang Saphan police decided to close some lanes of Phetkasem and used ropes to alert drivers where a road dividing ditch was located to prevent vehicles from plunging into the ditch.".......

Not as dramatic as buksi's videos from Bang Saphan, and nowhere near as bad, but here's some footage from my dashcam after dropping my daughter home last night. Apologies for the bright lights.

Hello,

after a break of a couple of hours it has started again to rain at 1415 hrs, dashing all hopes of a sunny afternoon.

At least the area around Soi 94 has passed the ultimate flood test! :D
With not a dry spot on our porch and car port, my books however were never in mortal danger
of getting soaking wet! :D :thumb:

Wishing everyone a sunny rest of the week.

Northeast monsoon to bring more rain to South

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... n-to-south

A strong northeast monsoon forecast for Jan 16-18 will cause the temperatures in the North and Northeast to drop and bring more rain to the South's eastern coast from Surat Thani province downward, Meteorological Department director-general Wanchai Sak-udomchai said on Wednesday.

Mr Wanchai said, however, that the rain would not be as heavy as in the first half of the month.

Heavy flooding which has hit the South was caused by a low pressure which moved up from Malaysia to the upper Andaman Sea, resulting in heavy rain from Narathiwat to Prachuap Khiri Khan provinces. This low-pressure wedge has now entered Myanmar.

Since floodwater in Phatthalung and parts of Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani has not yet been completely drained out, the coming rain could prolong the floods.

If augmented by high sea tides, flooding in areas around the Songkhla Lake could continue to prevail.
Mr Wanchai said rain in the South would gradually ease from late this month to the middle of February.

As for Bangkok, there will be no more rain from today and there are no foreseeable factors that can bring rain to cause more flooding in the near future.

The next rainy season is expected to arrive in the middle of May, he said.

Hi jele, the current weather pattern could be classed as freak weather. February should be warm and sunny.

Hope all effected by floodwaters in their homes get some help to clean up the smelly silt.
At least the sun will dry the houses out quickly. Good luck to all for rest of year.

BMA told to get prepared for heavy rains Sunday, Monday

Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paochinda has instructed the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to make preparations to avert flooding when heavy downpours hit Bangkok Sunday and Monday.

The Meteorological Department has warned that strong monsoon would unleash heavy rains in Bangkok and upper southern provinces Sunday and Monday.

Anupong said he has issued order to all provinces concerned to get prepared for heavy rains during the period and he has told the BMA to get prepared as well.
