Caws wedi pobi = "cheese that has been baked/toasted"

By now it should be clear that the answer to the 2 word crossword question is, of course, 'toasted cheese.'

They do not serve it at Gin Lairk but if they did it would probably be called Lao Gradtay or Pama Gradtay

Cheap food

I know of a couple of cheap resturants that get busy and thets always a good sign.

1. Lek Lek, located alongside the train line, approx 300metres south from the train station. the resturant is on the road side as you drive south it is on the left. slightly raised up by one step with wooden railings around the edge.

2. On Phetkasem road going north from Bankok Bank (same side)approx 350m, dont know the name but it is an all you can eat Korean style BBQ place , I think 70 baht per head. Quite good fun if you havnt done that sort of thing before.

The above as far as I know are only open in the evening.

I would agree with Lockwood on the Lek Lek, it’s been a favourite of mine for a long time. Another good local place is on Phetkasem rd., on the right heading north, between the Honda motorbike dealership and the video shop. It’s an open fronted place, but the Thai food is very impressive, and always tastes very fresh.

Another favourite of mine, again only open on an evening.
proceed from the train station going south for approx 500 metres, you will come to a junction, cross over the railway and proceed forward for another 175 metres, you will see 2 or three resturants almost next to each other, I think it is the first one on the right, very similar fare to Lek Lek but in a quieter environment away from the busy road that Lek Lek is on.

Another 3 resturants, proceed north from the railway station along the road by the side of the rail track, past the night market street, continue alon until you come to the crazy junction near the railway line, continue forward again alongside the rail track until the road bends to the right in the direction of Phetkasem road, just before you get to Phetkasem road there are 2 resturants on the left, the bottom one serving excellent sea bass and other thai fare, the resturant on the right opposite serves some sort of boiled pork and rice for a crazy low price 35 baht or something like that , you can sit down but was surprised how many customers were using it as a takeaway, only saw Thais there

You want good Thai food then go to Thais. There's a buffet place along Petchasem, I think soi 49 or 41 (you'll see it) which charges 79 baht per person and its far better than any of the other buffet places around here. A large variety and always loads of Thai eating there. Sometimes have to wait for them to put out more beef or ribs, etc but really a lot of choice and I would say for 79 baht, I can't even imagine how they could be making a profit.

Great place and because of the concept, also very social.

Agree with the others on Lek Lek and Kim's kitchen.

Another good (and dirt cheap) place is Baan Ice. It is a bit out of town, and therefore pretty quiet. They only have menu in Thai atm, but owner says he is working on it. He speaks decent English btw, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Just after the railway crossing on Soi 88, turn right at the 7 eleven and proceed approx 700 metres until you see a white sign with red "letters" on it, and you are there. They have colored lights in the garden and it looks like a bar. Don't be fooled however.

Oh, and only order spicy if you really mean it...
