I'm getting totally P'd off with price hikes by various outlets in Hua Hin. Recent noticeable hikes have been 33.3%, 20% and 25%. What is the justification? Electricity is the same cost, fuel is a lot cheaper than when I moved to Thailand, water is the same price, wages don't seem to be increasing - certainly, if they are, not in such huge %. In the 3 examples I am using (I won't name and shame businesses), only 1 pays rent.
So why such large price increases? I can only think greed. Does this happen in other Thai towns? I protest with my feet. IMHO accepting such increases is only encouraging businesses to charge even more.

It is a tourist town, what do you expect? I've always found prices in Hua Hin higher than elsewhere in Thailand - maybe the Bangkok glitterati like to be seen to be spending more.

The prices are already high, as you would expect to find in a tourist town. Now they are taking the P by upping their prices disproportionately, even further without any logical explanation.
I am at ease with tourist town prices - it's what I knowing moved to, with eyes open. A couple of Baht here and a couple of Baht there is not unexpected.
Still not naming names, but my local car wash increased by 20%. The reason - not because wages had increased, not because the price of water or electricity had increased, it was because my car had 4 doors. FFS - why didn't they tell the truth and say it was because of the colour of my skin/greed?

Exactly, but it's the mindset. Why tell BS like its because your car has 4 doors - they've just lost a loyal customer. Had they said our landlord has put the rent up - acceptable reason. How many Thai cars don't have 4 doors? It is not a reason.
