Morgan Motor Company

Post by PeteC »

I saw a 30 minute show about them on Auto Mundial the other day. Up to that point I didn't even know they existed. Quite a car in my opinion, the quintessential roadster/sports car. If I lived back in the West, and had the money of course, one would be in my garage. I can't remember when it was love at first sight concerning a car for me, but it happened with these.  What a car to cruise the country roads in on a crisp day....heaven!!!! 8) :D Pete

I saw a shiny white one drive past whilst sat outside Hua Hin International School 2 days ago - it certainly was a head turner. First one I remember seeing here.

^ Did you notice if the driver was Thai or Farang?

There's a photo of a white model on the web site. Great looking! Pete

Twenty years ago a friend ordered one, waiting time was 12 months, by the time he got it he was getting offers 50% above purchase price.

I saw one of the crazy new Morgan three wheelers here in Luxembourg a couple of days ago which was pretty brave of the driver considering the weather:

I went on one of their factory tours in Malvern with my father last year - quite something!!

They went through the whole process of the build, which was very interesting - the way the wooden frame was shaped and assembled was quite incredible.

One interesting point was that they couldn't sell them in the US due to some safety regulations on new cars.....

Yes, they're still coachbuilt on an ash frame, the same as they were in the 1930's. This one has to be surely the fastest car around still with wood in it:

These two photos were taken at the car show in Hua Hin in November 2014. Not sure if they are both genuine, but I believe rego number 1895 is:

How does an ash frame stand up to termites? and....what do you think the normal life is before some kind of rot sets in, same time frame as steel?

I can see why the US has a restriction unless there are crash tests available showing the frame can withstand the same or greater stresses than steel or aluminum, and fire risk may be a hang up for the insurance companies. Pete
