Re: Building a Pergola
I am thinking of building a Pergola at the front of the house, can somebody recommend which would be best material to use for the roof,to keep place cooler.Any recommendations on a Builder and roughly price.cheers
Re: Building a Pergola
We just built an outside kitchen. The roof is made up of some sort of cement sheeting to keep the underside cool. Only in a couple of spots we put transparent sheets in to let some light through.

We had this one built a couple of years ago and it has a tiled foof (these are not individual tiles but a cement fibre sheet, with 2 or 3 tiles per sheet) we also installed a ceiling fan which I think is pretty essential if you are going to make the best use of it.

Nice design Bristolian. And I agree about the fan. Either ceiling mounted, on the side or standing.
Here is another alternative that let's heaps of natural light through so you have a bright sitting area. The previous owners built this on our Koi pond, also with a fan although we have a breeze most of the time.
Its some kind of premium plastic sheeting with about 15cm gap to the under skirting .
