Violence and mai pen pai
Violence and mai pen pai
What would you have done?
If your missus was quite simply "touched up" by some dickhead farang who was in the mellee of people coming out of the Hilton as we were passing by to go home? What would you have done when you see it? This "touching up" is blatent.
He squares up to me and I'm pushed away by the missus and told to go home as the police arrive.
Am I a coward? Should I have hit the twat for thinking that my my wife was a bar girl?
Anyway, said farang is lucky not to be in the monkey house tonight. My wife let him off that.

You're not a coward - in the cold light of day you've probably done the right thing. Problem is, you haven't got any satisfaction out of it. Once 'squaring up' has taken place it's already too late to get the initiative. In my limited experience of such things, satisfaction in these sort of matters is usually only achieved with a pre-emptive and spontaneous explosion of violence. Whether this fella thought your misses was a bar girl or not is irrelevant in my opinion - you just don't go around groping gratuitously, wherever you are. He deserved a clout and you can rest easy in the knowledge that sooner or later he'll get it.lomuamart wrote:He squares up to me and I'm pushed away by the missus and told to go home as the police arrive.

First, I would feel sorry for the guy as he is part of a big and ignorant farang tourist majority who think that any Thai girl with a farang man is a bar girl, married or not.
Second, the police wouldn't distinguish who is right or wrong if two farangs get into a street brawl. They would take both of you away and indeed, your visa would be in jeopardy as well as his.
Third, be thankful that this type of person is only in the Kingdom short term and will be gone in 2-3 weeks.
It ain't worth it, Lomu. The satisfaction of thumping the guy would be short lived and probably cause you more problems than it was worth. It's not Mai pen rai, just good sense.
Your wife did the right thing by pushng you away. Pete

As soon as the police turned up - very quickly - I was booted out of the equation by by missus. "Piss off home, I'll take care of this".
And never truer words were ever said in this LOS.
Somrtimes, you've just got to trust in your partner's ability to take care of the situation.
Still leaves a nasty taste in my mouth as I write this.
I'll just listen to John Martyn and be a hippy again?

Well said, Pete
I promise you I hate violence and fortunately have never, ever have had to resort to it.
If I'd got into a physical altercation with that person, I wouldn't be writing this now. As you say, it would have been interviews at the police station.
It's great when you have "good back-up" and you're told to go away, isn't it?

It most certainly is and from what I can determine, most of us expats on here do. We're lucky men!lomuamart wrote: It's great when you have "good back-up" and you're told to go away, isn't it?
By chance, did you determine what country this A hole was from?
It amazes me that he just came out of a place where he could have a choice of dozens of women and does something like that. Probably just stupid drunk.
If you can't sleep over this, talk to a few MC taxi friends to take him for a short ride? Pete

Have been involved in the same situation only last month and took the same course of action. Although did have a quiet talk to the perpetrator and explained that this was not suitable behaviour in any country. He acccepted this and apologised to my freind and all was well in the world again.
Being 4 inches taller and 15 kg heavier may have something to do with his apologetic demenour though???

If your not cheating your only cheating yourself
Again, thankyou HB,
There seemed to be no threat to my wife as I walked away. Katoeays, bar girls etc etc. The farang didn't have a chance. And as he didn't just try to put his hand on her arse, but rather try to stick his finger up her arsehole as we were passing by, I hope everyone realises how upset I got. It was blatent.
"Excuse me, that's my wife"
"Your wife, I've heard that before" I showed him the ring, to his face, but still he couldn't get it.
At that stage, I was pushed away.
Number one, he's lucky that my wife is calm - she only slapped him twice, that I saw.
Number two, it lucky that all my friends had gone home. They might not have walked away, despite me.

lomu,
I know that it must have left a very nasty taste in your mouth seeing your wife being molested in front of you like that by a drunk. However, I totally agree with everything Pete said.
Your wife obviously has a very cool head on her shoulders, and thought to get you out of the way before the men in Brown Suits arrived.
My experience is that Thais are very good at looking after themselves in such situations, and they always seem to have plenty of help on hand. I've seen numerous Farangs put in to their place by girls half their size with just a few very choice words.
I know that as the man you will have felt that you had to protect your wife (and I'm sure I would have felt similar), but getting involved in a brawl would have done nobody any good. What happens if he's carrying a knife, or smashes a bottle to put in to your face? Although lamping him one would have made you feel better, its better leaving the matter to those that are paid to deal with such things.

Crappy situation all round. One can certainly understand your feeling that you were not able to get the satisfaction of kicking his ass to the curb.
I sometimes think a quick 500 baht to a mototaxi guy would be the way to sort it out a few minutes later when drunko isn't looking
Good on your wife, she did the right thing protecting you from possible visa damage.
BTW, what did the pisshead do when she whacked him?
He knew he was no match for an irate Thai woman I'll bet!

In the cold light of day, there is no change to the above. Apparantly, I actually spoke "well" to the farang and he wanted to fight me. He then hurled abuse at my wife for sticking up for me, that's when she tried to hit him and called pasing policemen over.
I was told to make a hasty exit.
Why do these drunken idiots think that they can get away with that, just because the woman's Thai?
Anyway, mai pen rai. I hope he's woken up this morning and his "grey matter" starts to recollect some things!!

As a farang I have learn't with a Thai girl/wife to get out of the place
Thai women are very strong when it comes to dealing with bad situations
Farangs only complicate things and usually come off worse for wear or walletless
It's really a case of biting the lip and walking away and leaving it to to the Thais to sort
Not my nature as a hot headed Aries Tyke, but TIT

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.

I'm not condoning what this guy did, but I've learnt to avoid taking my wife to places where the majority of woman are hookers, and most of those girls would put up with what this guy did. Face it, this place is really meat-market.
What if the shoe were on the other foot? I've had my ass rubbed, pinched etc there, didn't complain, its all part of the game.
Try to find a more respectable hangout with a better class of customer.
