I read this report today in BBK Post and it paints a dim picture in many ways. The report singles out Hua Hin and Phuket and says the Hua Hin beaches have had a major shake-up in many "management" policy ways. Vendors have been dispersed and moved to Takiab and other places, other service providers have been reeled-in, food selling restrictions, time allocation parameters for rented stuff too etc......seems there are problems at Hua Don too with locals annoyed the traders have been moved there and is "impacting" the area in negative ways according to some Thais.
Slightly long article but can skip the parts about Phuket and should be OK

Was thinking of taking the Mrs on holiday to HH in a couple of months. What's the deal/opinion from the expat persective on the ground as haven't been to HH for a while?

Re: What's the current beach situation for short term tourists?
I've not read the article, but I'm on the beach most evenings.
Yes, the traders aren't as many, but IMHO all of the normal services are still available. You may have to walk a few extra yards to find what you want, but you will find it.

Re: What's the current beach situation for short term tourists?
The whole story has been blown out of proportion, there are still plenty of sunbeds on the Beach, and you can still buy food on the Beach, on Khao Takiab Beach there are now a number of proper Restaurants right up to the Beach, instead of all the old Shacks selling Food. All they have done is tidy everything up, instead of sunbeds everywhere, they are now all in neat rows in certain areas, it looks much nicer, and the Beach looks much better.
Re: What's the current beach situation for short term tourists?
It seemed to me from the report, an issue of access. In that are the sunbeds - with umbrellas - where most tourists would expect them to be?

Re: What's the current beach situation for short term tourists?
Personally , i don't think there are enough places to buy a drink or food on the beach .
On the main beach you just have the area on left as you arrive at the beach . This area has pushy Vendors , trying to get you and your family to come into their Restaurant.
If you turn right and walk down there is almost nothing apart from expensive hotels
I can see why its frustrating for holiday makers coming here , Its harder for them to bring their own food and drinks etc and its true there are not a lot of sunbeds either.
Of course the clean up didn't include getting rid of the mounted police and all the horse s**t up most of the beach.
Hua Hin beach is a nice beach , but could be a lot better

Summer dreams dashed in divisive beach clean-up
Vendors have been driven off the sand in resort towns across the country, but dealing with the fallout is causing bigger waves than anyone anticipated........

Umbrellas on the beach
Hi, I will be returning to Hua Hin after 6 months out of the country, I will be bringing my girlfriend with me and would wish to visit the beach and she tries to limit her time in direct sun.
I have been reading a lot about the beach clear up of umbrellas, deckchairs etc. but I was wondring if there is anywhere north or south of Hua Hin that still has deckchairs and umbrellas on the beach for hire, thanks

Walked the beach from the Hilton to Takiab this Sunday and didn't see any at all.

Go to soi 75/1, walk down to the beach and you'll find a nice, but slightly expensive restaurant that also rents beach recliners and umbrellas. Very nice area, just slightly south of Market Village. Penns Guest House offers very nice, comfortable cheap rooms just 2 minutes walk from the beach in this area. My wife and I stayed there many times before we finally moved to live here permanently.
