I hope they're going to give the approved price list to all those five star hotels with restaurants overlooking the beach but I suppose they're allowed to overcharge you for some reason.
Why have one rule for some and not for others? No idea how they can price fix food and drink. Venue by venue the simple cost of a beer varies from 50 Bt buy 2 get one free to 180 Bt++ In the exact same walking distance from me with the same mountain views I can pay 50-70 Bt for a green curry or 260 Bt at various restaurants. Cannot see how business owners can be ordered to fix prices if they clearly display what they are up front which IMHO is normal practice. Out of interest what is the new fixed maximum pricing schedule? Any examples? Are portion sizes to be regulated to the gram or millilitre? Not saying I have not found some of the beachfront places very minty on price, particularly seafood, but I read the menu before I ordered so down to me to choose.
here in the netherlands the prices have to be clearly displayed and that's how it
should be,it can't be that hard but then again it might mess up the one price for Thai
one for farang scam.
How do you know if you are getting charged more unless your bill is different to the menu? Which you agreed to when you ordered.
40 Bt for a small water is minty but most places have water for free unless you want bottled.
As for ice? Whilst I would expect it to be included in a mixed drink pricing system it does cost money and a lot of people take along their own whiskey or whatever and order a bucket of ice and mixers which incurs costs to the restaurant owners in terms of buying the ice, service etc. The restaurant I had dinner at this evening sent staff out to get me wine that they did not have and did not even charge me corkage. Of course I left a good tips.
Last saturday in a Bangkok restaurant, I was charged 30 Baht for a bucket of ice. Everything else was normal ( a large bottle Leo beer 80 Baht,). The reason is that most Thais come with their whisky bottles and order ice and soda water.
Apart of restaurant prices, I would like to remind some farangs to check their bills in some bars.
In particular a certain bar on Binta is systematically overcharging customers, especially farang tourists. The trick is simple: A table of 6 or more customers, if they had 12 or 15 drinks, they will be charged as 20 drinks. No one would count the drinks and check prices. That looks so cheap specially for Scandinavians. Recently I sat in this bar, just because I met some friends already sitting there. I had 2 Leo beers 2 x 80 = 180 Baht ! ! ! When I called the owner, she just said: sorry mistake of new cashier.......thats a lie, the cashier wasn't new. It's their trick.
Irish big-kev : You certainly know that I don't have the right to name the bar, because the owners of this site are also the censorship of our messages. They will delete my message, because they are afraid naming wrongdoers.
Got it. The cashier and owner have a history of doing that
