Re: Location of Cha Am Drivers License test?
This has been asked and answered many times so if you do a search you should find it, but heading from Cha Am towards Petchaburi and as you pass the Ferris wheel in Santorini park take the 2nd u-turn and head back towards Cha am and take I think the first turning (but could be the 2nd) on the left, after a few hundred metres the road bears to the left and then a bit further on on the LHS is the test centre/license office. There may be signs in Thai, but nothing in English the last time I went.JamesWest wrote:Anybody got directions to the DMV in Cha Am? Thanks

Maybe it's time there was a 'sticky' in the Motoring section for this?
Here is the location on Google Maps

I've done a bit of a trawl around Google, and I think (not sure) you need to go to a Land Transport Office http://driving-in-thailand.com/land-tra ... -thailand/

James if you travel to the other side of Cha-Am towards Bangkok past Santori you will see a number of petrol stations the last being CALTEX. Just before this is a U turn which you will take and almost immediately you you will a very small Soi to do a left turn. This was where I waited until I saw large number of motor cycles turning which I followed. Follow this along and you will see the office on the left handside.

Drive through Cha Am and turn on to Petkasem heading north, towards a footbridge over the road,at about4/5km, but it’s the only one in that immediate area so you can’t miss it, as you approach the bridge get into the middle of the road ready to make a U-turn.
After the U-Turn you need to take the first sharp left down a small road keep to left and you will come across a government building which is the driving license/test center.

Thank you everybody for this information. I went up there on a scooter from Hua Hin. No fun having to work your way over from the scooter lane to the fast lane to get set up for the U turn, with Bangkok bound traffic hauling ass past you. After you make the U-turn, swing out wide to the left because you are going to be making the first left which comes up fast.

It is possible to enter from the 'beach' side if you go through Nong-Ta-Pot or the Cement Factory just outside Cha-Am, both roads take you past the small Khao Nang Forest Park but they are long and winding.
If you really want to avoid the u-turn you need to continue North until you pass the second Mae-Kim-Lung Dessert shop and there is an underpass there - it's probably another 5Kms (both ways) though.
If possible, can you post the details of what you needed and how long it took etc etc, to help other people looking for the same info as things have a habit of changing quickly here.

I also generally drive up using the 'Canal' road, rather than Petchkasem. It is a much calmer - actually quite pleasant -route. You exit onto the bypass about 1km before the junction with the Petchkasem as you would take it from Hua Hin. The extra km does involve getting past that junction, but is no worse than the rest of the road for all that. Alternatively, you can work your way through the side roads just before the junction with the bypass, and pass through Cha-Am. That gives you the option to approach it from the beach side, as described by Frank ^^

Do I need a residence letter from immigration to renew my 5 yr license? I had heard a rumor that it was no longer needed.

Re: Location of Cha Am Drivers License test?
Where can I go to get doctors certificate? Any recommendations for a clinic in Hua Hin. Last time I did it I found a clinic in little town in rice country where I just gave them 100 Baht. Didn't even have to see the doctor.
