Since some month you need the certificate of residence from immigration! All other, like yellow or blue Tambien Baan, are no more enough. It's my own experience last March in Prachuap Khiri Khan.
The immigration has an special form for this certificate which you will get there without any problems.

I am guessing that there is a cost for their services?

I think you find it different from place to place, if I remember correct from another thread. TIT

Re: Thai driving license
Can someone please shed some light on how getting the Thai driver license works?
I have an EU driver license (not international) for cars that also lets me drive a scooter in Europe. I don't have a driver license for bikes above 125ccm. How can I get the Thai driver license? Where to go and how much does it cost? Do I have to do any written or driving tests? If yes, are these tests in English or Thai?
I asked around and got offers for assistance anywhere between 3.000-10.000 baht/license type, because I don't speak Thai (just yet
) Do I really need Thai assistance in the process, or is it safe to just go and run for it myself?
Another thing is also unclear: I learned that a different driver license is needed for bikes and cars. Are scooters and big bikes (over 125cc) differentiated or will a motorcycle license allow me drive any size and type of bikes? Also will a car driver license allow me to ride a scooter (125cc and below) like in the EU?

Re: Thai driving license
OK, I'll start.
Where is your licence from? If the UK it will be easy. You get a letter from Immigration to prove your address, stop off at a doctors to have a medical, then turn up at the test centre (Cha-Am or Pranburi) with your papers and licence. A quick reaction and colour test, pay the fee (about 200 Baht per licence) and pick up your licence(s).
If from a different EU country, you will need to get the licence notorised.
I believe (not sure) the bike licence will cover you for any sized bike.
I went with a Thai, which made life easier, but it should be possible on your own.

Re: Thai driving license
Thanks for the info. My license is from Austria. Does it make any difference?

If you'd had an International licence it wouldn't have been a problem.Big Boy wrote:If from a different EU country, you will need to get the licence notorised.

Re: Thai driving license
Ah, I missed that sentence, sorry. Do you know where/how to notarize the driver license?

Re: Thai driving license
Can't be totally specific, but heading from Cha am towards Petchaburi, you go past the Santorini Park and I think you take the 2nd u-turn and then heading back towards Cha Am it's the first turning on your left, travel down 2-300 metres and it's on the left. As far as I recall, no signs in English but there could be signs in Thai.malcolminthemiddle wrote:Where exactly is the test centre in Cha Am? Thanks.
Re: Thai driving license
They do no longer accept UK licenses here in Phuket. IDL only. Might still be different in Cha-Am and Pranburi of course.
