Re: Dogs and markets
Sorry to hear that dtaai-maai. Always tough to lose a family dog.
Re: Dogs and markets
Oh my, not again DTM. If I calculate correctly he was only about 4 years old. I wonder if he too got into some string, or something else nasty. You'll have to now get another playmate for Lucy. Maybe try a pure Heinz 57 variety soi dog this time. They're built for this place and should last many years. Indeed, sad day. Pete
EDIT: I guess it could have been this tick fever we're talking about. That stuff really takes no prisoners.

My condolences DM. Loss of "mans best friend" is always tough.
A practical question if you're up to it... One of our dogs is very ill and after several visits to the veterinary hospital in Takiab, he is not improving and we are preparing for the worst. The question on my mind is what to do with the remains. In the U.S. when a cat died that had been in the family for 18 years, I had him cremated and put into a small urn waiting until much later to scatter the ashes. They also have cemeteries for family pets in the U.S., but what do you do with the remains of a K-9 loved one here?
No jokes please as this is a serious question.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Dogs and markets
We had a stray walk into our place over here a few months ago with the bottom part of its leg hanging off after being hit by a car. Off to the vet who put on a splint, stitched up everything and started pumping antibiotics and fluids, but to no avail, the dog wouldn't eat. He called 5 days later and said the dog had passed away. He hadn't, the Vet put it down so there are some here who do it. However, he wouldn't dispose. We had to pick it up and go to a far off field and bury it. We're in the country though more or less. Perhaps in a town the size of HH they have a pet cremation place or burial service.

Civilized people where I'm living bury their pets in the jungle opposite where I live. The uncivilized ones just dump them to rot - very unpleasant.

Mrs D-M has a friend who works on a pineapple farm, where they have quite a few dogs that are well cared for. She took him up there, but I don't know whether they buried or cremated him.hhfarang wrote:. I suppose if I'd been on my own, I'd have contacted the monks at the dog shelter by the Elephant Village.

Re: Dogs and markets
My sympathies to you. Retrievers are great dogs.
Re: Dogs and markets
My sympathies to you as well. I'm expecting to lose our Dalmatian one of these days as well. She's going downhill quite quickly now, and also starting to lose her mind. I really dread the thought of having to take her in for the deed to be done, so hopefully just drift away in her sleep as well.
As you know DM, it's hard losing your dog, but you will get over it.

DM, my heart really goes out to you. If we were living in your neck of the woods, I'd give you (and Bee) a great big hug and we could all have a good cry over our lovely furry friends who have broken our hearts.

The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.
Re: Dogs and markets
I'm so sorry to hear this. He was such a lovely dog. Are you having a problem with ticks? Blood parasites will kill the healthiest of dogs really quick if you don't address the problem. I would have Lucy tested now if you can, just in case. It's a quick test at the vet's and you can start treatment right away if that's the problem.
I lost my cat last year and the monks at the temple near my home agreed to cremate her. They said a prayer for her and then I took the ashes home in an urn.

Thanks for the thoughts, one and all.
I don't think it was ticks, Dot. Bee checks regularly, especially as O-Buck was so hairy!

Really sorry to hear of your loss. I have been there too, my lovely dog is buried in France. We lost her some 12 years back, she is in a friends garden with a flowering cherry tree to mark where she was laid to rest. It was such a hard time, my thoughts are with you and your wife.
