When was your first visit to Hua Hin?
Re: When was your first visit to Hua Hin?
August 2004. It was just for 3 nights, we were on a 4 centre Thai holiday , we stayed at the Anantara and I loved it , we had some great meals in the night market area and had beautiful weather.

Re: When was your first visit to Hua Hin?
I was missing the 'Old Pattaya,' and was beginning to despair that I would never find a Girl that I would fall in love with again. One who would have the skills to make me believe that I was the only one "in her heart." One who would spend most her time with me, 'just for me.' One who would come to the Airport with me when it was time to go home, and be crying at the anticipation of my departure. And during the flight she would be constantly in my thoughts, and I would already be planning my return to the land of dreams. It didn't matter that she had stolen my heart and had relieved me of most of my cash. I just had to get back there as soon as possible. However, there was a reluctant acceptance that those days are long gone. Pattaya for 'Mongers' had become almost completely 'Hardcore,' and the influx of Russians and Arabs had done nothing to enhance the reputation of 'Falang' among the Thai Population of Pattaya.
After so many years of visiting Pattaya I had accepted the declining attitude, and increasing scams from the Pattaya Thais. They never used to be this bad, but I acknowledged the declining welcome as an inevitability. It was a kind of sad, creeping thing, that I was not fully aware of at the time. I don't know why it happened, it just did. Maybe it was the influx of Russian and Arab Tourists, many of whom don't know how to behave in a free Country populated by a warm friendly people who can, initially, be taken advantage of. Until they learn that many visitors to their Country cannot be trusted, and so the change in attitude toward Farang was probably inevitable. The modification in the 'Girls' behaviour toward Farang may be an evolutionary thing. As one generation of 'Girls' moves on, and another generation emerges, their skills are not necessarily passed on. Sadly, there's no going back. It can't be undone.
I'd tried Angeles City, and Phnom Penh, in the hope that there would be an 'attitude' among the Girls akin to those in the "Old Pattaya." Whilst there are many things that are different in both those Cities, they do not compensate for the loss of the "Old Pattaya Girls." Hua Hin came to my attention over a period, and so I thought it worth investigating. This time however, I planned to spend the first half of my Holiday in Hua Hin and then move on to Pattaya.
After three or four days I was bored but had just began to relax and Chill out. And so appreciated Hua Hin a little more. After a week I had ditched all thoughts of moving on to Pattaya this trip. I didn't want to go. Nor did I want to leave Hua Hin and return home.

Re: When was your first visit to Hua Hin?
September 2003 myself , my mate Bill and a couple of Nong Khai girls we had known for a couple of years, hired a car in Bangkok and spent 3 weeks touring in the south.
We wanted to see a little of Hua Hin so stayed a couple of nights in one of the pier guest houses , thought the town very pleasant.
Unfortunately we were later to learn that Phuket and Krabi were most definitely NOT the places to visit at that particular time of year , light rain in the afternoon only !!!!!!!

Skydiving holiday in '88. We stayed at the Regent Cha Am and jumped at the Police Drop Zone from Royal Thai Air Force Fairchild C123's - last jump of the day always landing back onto the beach in front of the hotel! All paid for by the sponsors of which Ch.7 TV was one of the major ones if I remember. We had to do a pretty hairy demo jump into Siam Park water park in Bangkok to justify it all. No high rise condos on the beach then.

First visited early 1969 at the beginning of my first 10 years in Thailand - back then it was just a small fishing village with the old raj-style Railway Hotel, and I was usually the only farang around the market area...

Wow, you must have seen one hell of a lot of change since then - 1969 was the year I started work and can't imagine what I would have made of Thailand back then!!ras wrote:First visited early 1969 at the beginning of my first 10 years in Thailand - back then it was just a small fishing village with the old raj-style Railway Hotel, and I was usually the only farang around the market area...

Re: When was your first visit to Hua Hin?
Barbara, you will be shocked (and maybe appalled) by the changes to the place since the last time you were here. 2003 was the first time I came here and there is little resemblance in the Hua Hin then and now.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Re: When was your first visit to Hua Hin?
I desperately needed to get away from work and the daily routine at home, and a friends recommendation led me to HH in December 2012. I brought my golfclubs and spent 10 days of recreation in HH. The ease and pace of the place really charmed me, I am going back again this winter.

Re: When was your first visit to Hua Hin?
I went through Cha Am and Hua Hin in 1991, travelling by bus. I stayed in a cheap hotel on the
main street and spent 2 days in the city. There were lots of tourists, and some expats already living there. The night life was fairly quiet, but still entertaining, and the night markets were interesting.
It was a great 2 day stay and I have returned many times since. I have several friends from Canada and the UK at Hua Hin, so I find lots to do and am never bored by the pace of the place.
A favorite daytime stopping point is a small café setting just south of the Hilton Hotel. It is located on the point which has a small temple. It is still cheap to ride the local bus either south to Pran Buri or North to Cha Am from Hua Hin, that provides something elso to do besides just enjoying the sites
in the HH area.

Re: When was your first visit to Hua Hin?
It is kinda of funny. We always used to go to Cha Am as my ex said it is closer and then one time I got a great rate at a hotel in Hua Hin and we stayed there in 2003 for 7 days. I liked that I could walk the beach for what seemed forever. I liked that it was quiet compared to Patts. And so came the addiction. As time has passed and traffic has gotten worse. But I find better places to eat. Time will tell but I plan on putting down here if the gods see fit.
