It's an old Checker taxi that looks like it's been stretched into a limo. Pete

Yes, it is a Checker Taxi, but it was built like that at the factory.prcscct wrote:It's an old Checker taxi that looks like it's been stretched into a limo. Pete

This explains why the car badge was unfamiliar to me

No, I'm changing my mind to Renault.

Re: The Car Challenge
I thought it looked like a Renault 4CV a bit.
Assuming it's a Pug then it looks like a predecessor to the 403 but I've checked and that's not it.

Re: The Car Challenge
It is a Peugeot 203 Berline, they were produced from 1948 to 1960 and I notice that many versions had a different grill without the fog lights which might have made you think it was something different.
Incidentally, if I'd have been a better photographer, you'd have seen the lions head on the bonnet that would have pointed to Peugeot straight away!

Re: The Car Challenge
I changed my mind to Renault for one very simple reason - the color of the wheel spinners struck me as being Renault yellow.
I thought the 403's predecessor would be the 402 but looking more closely there was 15 year gap between the 402 and the 403, that gap was filled by the 203 and Wikipedia has this to say ...

A month after the production of the last 203, Peugeot launched the 403-sept which was a version of their larger newer 403 model with the smaller 7CV (7 fiscal horsepower) engine from the 203. At the time of the 203's demise, this stripped down version of the Peugeot 403 was presented as the replacement for the 203, though it could be argued that the spacious front-wheel-drive 1300 cc Peugeot 304, which appeared only in 1969, or indeed the consecutively named Peugeot 204 more directly occupied the market niche which in the early 1950s the 203 had made its own.
I think you've done a good job, not only juxtaposing the 206 in the background with it's great, great, grandfather but photo bombing your own picture (that is you in the front wing?).if I'd have been a better photographer
Re: The Car Challenge
I never noticed the 206, I have a point-and-shoot camera and that's exactly how it gets used!

Re: The Car Challenge
A quick Challenge
I had the pleasure of meeting this infamous star and his car, in the early 1980s, at Sandown on the Isle of Wight.
Who’s the star?
What’s the car?
It’s easy to Google so please don’t, at least at first

The star looks like Oliver Reed.
EDIT: And the car looks like the one driven by Cruella DeVille, which was called something like Deville.
