Sunbeam Talbot maybe, part of the Rootes group.

Correct Magnum, a 1947 Sunbeam Talbot which was the same years as my fathers and quite a nice car in it's day. Although not unique, an unusual feature was that the front doors opened from the front rather than the back.

As a spotty teenager in the 60`s I remember looking out of my first floor office window to catch a glimpse of thigh when a local carnival queen (retired) emerged from her car where the door opened from the front.

At that price, with a V8 in front, not much of a back seat if any is it Italian? Ferrari ?

Yes, Italian but not Ferrari.

There doesn't appear to be a front passenger seat. Was this 'one-off' built for a specific purpose other than straightforward road transport people-carrying?

It was raced.

How about a classic Maserati from the mid 50's?

I was going to go for Maserati too - the 450 coupe ?

Yes, well done both of you, it's the 1957 Maserati 450S Costin Zagato Coupe as raced at Le Mans by Stirling Moss. At various times Masserati 450s's were driven by some of the all time greats of motor racing, Juan Manuel Fangio, Stirling Moss and Carroll Shelby in the US.

I wouldn't mind one of those - not so much for the driving experience, but the $4-5m sounds tempting

That looks like a 1950s Rover that one of my teachers had in the late 60s.

You have a good memory DM any idea which model? Actually this particular model was one of the last produced and was made in 1963.

I remember it well because it was something of an icon, as was the ancient teacher we called Mr Chips.
