If I remember correctly, you pay 30K and then it's 300baht per round at Sea Pines with no restrictions on residency, times etc...

I think it's a great deal if you look at the quality of the course and the location being so close to Hua Hin. Seems like Majestic might turn out to be a good deal but it's quite a bit further out and it remains to be seen if the maintenance will be up to par.

The other courses that are quite close are either easy, boring or poorly maintained(Palm Hill and Royal) or a whole lot more expensive and not as pleasant to walk which the way I believe golf should be played(Banyan and Black Mountain).

The membership at Sea Pines is 30,000 Baht and 500 Baht per round plus caddie fee.

The membership at Sea Pines doesn't give you free green fee - just a good discount. Mind you I haven't played it in a long time so others will know better than me. It is a good course though. They are using it for 1st stage of Asian Tour school in early Jan.

I played Sea Pine two weeks ago and it's in good condition but the four of us who played all felt it was a bit booring this time compared to how we felt last year. But still a good course. Only negative thing is that they don't provide shops around the course with anything to eat and if you play during noon and the sun is burning you need something to eat. If I remember correct they only offered a few eggs, no sandwishes or chicken or what ever. That is something that they need to improve.

Not sure what happened when you played. Every time I have played SeaPines there is a great food and drink stop situated in the middle of the course.

The entry list and starters for the upcoming Asian Tour Qualies are now on the Asian Tour website. I noticed that Manuel Quiros is amongst the starters in the First Stage which starts next week, he gave Sergio Garcia a good hiding 3 years ago at the Madrid Masters.

Does anybody know whether A at Majestic is open now, or is it still B and C?

Still B & C. They hope to open course A at the end of this month.

Golf course condition updates

Post by blueskyramblinman »

Can some of the golfing forum members give us an up to date opinion on the playing condition of area golf courses for the last 2-3 weeks.
Thanks

What is the norm for caddy fees

Post by blueskyramblinman »

If the cost of a club's caddy fee for 18 holes is 300 baht what would be the rule of thumb for the "tip"?
Thanks

Tip should be at least the caddie fee.
Lake View - Good
Banyan - Excellent
BM - Excellent
Springfield - Improving worth a game for sure
Palm Hills - no idea!
Krang Kachan - good
Sea Pines - Good
Majestic - Good

Dont forget -
Sawang
Dragon Hills
Ratchaburi
Panarangsi

All in decent condition and still cheaper than most of the above even with travelling! happy golfing and remember when things are bad out there, its much better than being in Europe!

Have fun!

I was shown around Majestic A 9 yesterday. All the greens are done and the areas around the greens have been sodded. Some of the bunkers have been reduced or removed. Course will be very good but unlikely to open for about 3 months. My friend, who is advising on the renovations, doesn't want it to open until it is really ready and then they will go to work on the C 9. Of course the owner might decide to open it before it is ready, but that would be a mistake. Plenty of mistakes made in the golf business around here though! They have a new greenkeeper and some new machinery but old habits die hard. He tells me that the fairways haven't been cored and sanded in 20 years - should be cored 2 times per year. There will be massive improvements there and the final results will be for next high season. Their memberships have been sold out.
Played Kaeng Krachan today. The new 9 was so waterlogged and the bunkers haven't seen a rake in weeks. The old 9's were much better - fairways and greens not bad, but a bit untidy around the edges. Overwatering has to be the biggest crime in greenkeeping but very common in Thailand.
