World's 15 Ugliest Cars
Re: World's 15 Ugliest Cars
The first Honda model sold in North America was the N600 in 1970. It had 2 cylinders and 36 horsepower. Zero to sixty in ...... uh.... well..... better pack a lunch.... top speed was around 80mph.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: World's 15 Ugliest Cars
Oh okay, three in total. 2 of my Dad's brothers and a sisters husband. Don't know what the fascination was - cheap, I guess? None of them had any money. My uncle from my mum's side drove a Ford Zephyr at one stage! As a very young kid, that seemed the bees knees to me.dtaai-maai wrote:A few? A FEW?caller wrote: I had a few uncles who drove them...

On the subject of three-wheelers, Morgan have started making these again:
Re: World's 15 Ugliest Cars
They must have exported these to the USA in the late '50's, early '60's as my sister had one as a young adult. Pete

Yes Pete, it's a Ford Anglia and the man who lived over the road from us when I was a kid had one.
I'm amazed they ever sold those in America but I've found this American website dedicated to them:

Re: World's 15 Ugliest Cars
you cant compare any of the american cars to early alfa`s, mercs even citreon which were admittedly an acquired taste but years ahead of their time.2 seater british sports cars - mg,triumph sunbeam etc rubbish build but looked stylish.Even today, money no object, people buy flash European cars.NO-one aspires to buy American. Why?Its about Brand name and style and there is no cudos to owning an American car in Europe.Im not having a go at Yanks just telling the truth, sorry if it hurts
Re: World's 15 Ugliest Cars
Well I'm no expert, but I think there is absolute kudos in owning a Mustang, or Corvette here!luckyalf wrote:Its about Brand name and style and there is no cudos to owning an American car in Europe.

Re: World's 15 Ugliest Cars
Corvette Sting Ray = huge kudos in Europe. Tons of them in Germany and Switzerland sold by US military before going home.
Get off your damp grey little island, luckyalf, there's a big world out there.

Anglias like this were quite common when I was growing up in Montreal early '60s.STEVE G wrote:Yes Pete, it's a Ford Anglia and the man who lived over the road from us when I was a kid had one.

An old friend lived in England many years had a Morgan Plus 4 with the handwritten bill of sale given to him when he picked it up at the factory. If I remember it was about 2300 quid.STEVE G wrote:On the subject of three-wheelers, Morgan have started making these again:

Yes, one of my German colleages here has one of those ridiculous old Stingrays from the early seventies with the seven litre engine.johnnyk wrote:Corvette Sting Ray = huge kudos in Europe. Tons of them in Germany and Switzerland sold by US military before going home.

I wouldn't say it's a hugely good looking car but it is impressive.
It reminds me of when I used to go to watch historic car racing with my Father in the Eighties when there were a couple of guys racing old Can-Am cars that used to sound like a Spitfire taking off!
Re: World's 15 Ugliest Cars
Well, I'm not really a fanatic, but if you ask me, America has produced more great looking cars than any other country in the world. Oh, and I'm not American. Sadly, one rarely sees a really good looking car on the roads nowadays. I mean, there's nothing about the looks of your average Toyota, Nissan, Honda, BMW, or even Merc.

Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact
Re: World's 15 Ugliest Cars
I used to go to the Can-Am Group 7 races in the 60s. John Surtees, Chris Amon, the late Mark Donohue were among the pilots. Donohue raced a factory Porsche (forget the model #). Car weighed in about 1500lbs with about 950 horses. Complete monster car. I saw Donohue come over a rise at well over 100mph and push it into 6th laying down 50 yards of rubber and smoke. In 6th!!!!!!!!!!STEVE G wrote:Yes, one of my German colleages here has one of those ridiculous old Stingrays from the early seventies with the seven litre engine.
