Makro is coming to Hua Hin
Makro is going to build an outlet on a 20 rai piece of land close to the airport.
Rumours say it is a joint project together with Tesco. Not sure...
Survey people have been out these days and a caterpillar cleared part of the property from bushes and trees.

What is Makro, and which sort of outlet shop is it, do they original stuff or, is it sport, golf, equipment or?
Re: Makro is coming to Hua Hin
Makro sell everything just like BigC and Tesco Lotus up in Surin we have all three next to each other and in my opinion Makro come out top for fresh produce meat and sea food they have live fish and prawns and crabs in tanks you don't get fresher than that.

Is this a fact because I find it very strange that they would build another store when they already have large outlets on the Hua Hin side of Pranburi and 45 mins away in Phetchaburi ?
Also Tesco and Makro joining forces on a shopping development

If you are familiar with the METRO so-called wholesale self-service chain in Europe, Makro is its eauivalent in Thailand. It was originally geared towards selling wholesale in major lots to the retailer and you need a membership card to get access. But every farang can get one. You can buy practically anything under the moon, but not necessarily cheaper than elsewhere.

MAKRO operates in the UK and you need a membership card there also.

Excellent! I used the one in Sakon Nakhon when I lived there and found it very good for bulk buying
My mind wandered and never came back
Re: Makro is coming to Hua Hin
I asked SINGALOVER who started this thread if it was a fact that Makro were coming etc but he has not responded, so I guess it was just a rumour.

I just went through their web site English version and saw nothing about them opening a Hua Hin branch. However, the "News" section is only in Thai and couldn't read that. Pete

Re: Makro is coming to Hua Hin
Hi Pet,
What is a fact?
I am a neighbor of the aforesaid ground. We went out asking the people clearing the property. They told us Makro has bought it and they will build an outlet there. They told us how many rai they bought and they told us the price of the deal. It is all in the very early stages. They even haven`t cleared the whole ground or haven´t filled it up. They just put survey poles and forced access ways through the shrubs. I had no grounds to mistrust their statements, thats why I thought to communicate some early infos. Okay, it is neighborhood hearsay for the time beeing, but nevertheless true action, unproven, but even so an actual fact.
If you want more clarity on the matter, you may call their managing director. On their website they already state that they are focused to expand their business on a “go-and-grow-concept”, and that they are looking for opportunities.
Okay, this doesn´t say having Hua Hin on their radar, but for me it seems quite reasonable. Sandwiched already between their Petchaburi and Pranburi outlets Hua Hin is a growing market with potential well-funded residents, expats and visitors. So it makes sense to be present.
Besides:
Makro is good for bulk buying as PIESAT said, but is not at all cheaper than anywhere else. You may apply for a membership card, but you are welcome to shop around without it as well. Membership holders are offered special prices at occasions.

That's fair enough singha, we've done that before and the contractors working there and even the local shops and food carts usually know who the end client is and what's going up.singhallover wrote:I am a neighbor of the aforesaid ground. Is it the plot of land behind the new Boonthavorn tile & bathroom centre that's recently opened? I saw a large plot behind it being clearer by plant about 3 weeks ago?
As to whether Makro would build one here when they have one already in Pranburi and Petchaburi, I get the impression Thais do not like travelling much for things like shopping, and nothing would surprise me here on the shop front front after seeing the 4th Tesco and 4th Kasikorn bank open in town.
Cheers,
SJ

Tesco overall seem to be aiming to almost double their outlets within a very few years - a 4th store in HH wouldn't surprise me at all.
Tesco Expresses especially are now on almost every main road in UK towns.

I truly hope Tesco open another mega store in Hua Hin.because the current location at Market Village is not good. However their is a world of difference between an Express store and a Mega store.
There is no way Tesco and Makro will operate together.
