Never stayed there, had lunch visits to meet freinds, food was good on both occaisions but it just seemed like nothing would happen in the evening, we went back to hh and met slavery Davy with John Withers and Craig in the U Turn, better evening than day!

This thread made me cheer up a bit. Im heading down to Hua Hin on the 1st of September, gonna stay for atleast 16 days. Ive been to Bangkok, Pattaya, Rayong, Samet, Koh Chang, Phuket, Krabi, Ao Nang, Raylee, Phi Phi and Koh Lanta previously. I usually do the longstay Thailand trips, ive been totally 1.5 years in Thailand scattered over 3 trips in total.

This next trip starting on september 1st is gonna be my 4th trip to Thailand in total, and to be honest i had a hard time thinking of a place i really wanted to go. The plan is to kill 2-3 weeks somewhere near Bangkok, after this im heading off to my girlfriends place 1 hour outside Bangkok. But these first 2-3 weeks im on my own.

Dont want to be in the Pattaya/Jomtien area due to me having a bit of bad character, so this time im checking out Hua Hin. Was a bit sceptical to what Hua Hin has to offer but this thread cheered me up a bit. Now im looking forward to my stay there.

The basic plan is to eat well, enjoy the pool, exercise, maybe have a beer or two during the night, i also have a six month/1 year Webdesign course im attending thru the internet to keep me somewhat occupied.

Im hoping i will like Hua Hin, since later on during my trip im looking for a good longstay alternative, im gonna be in Thailand 6 months up to a year.

I suspect with your plans, you've picked the right destination. While I do complain a lot about Thailand in general after living here over six years, I think Hua Hin is the best location in the country for a stay like you mentioned. For a town of it's size (85,000) I think it has more to offer in the way of a nice relaxed vacation than any other Thai destination and the food and restaurant choices are mind boggling for a place this small.

Hope you agree after your stay and please let us residents know how it went when your visit is completed.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

There are a lot of people I speak to about Thailand who have never even heard of Hua Hin let alone been. And the folks I do mention HH to, there eyes light up and cant stop going on about it, saying , yeah gotta go back great place etc!!!!
Cant wait to see the place again.

first time at HH in 2006, i am just back now in 2010.

Differences between 2006 and 2010:

- currently there are far fewer tourists,
my impression is about 50% less than 2006
there are far fewer people in the evenings on the streets
some shop-owner guess some people find a new stay in vietnam

- there are currently much less internet shops

I love this place (HuaHin) and i am happy to stay here again.

I went to Hua Hin for two days in late Oct,, ended up spending ten, cancelled my return visit to Patong, Hua Hin was so much more comfortable, good hotels, good meals and sufficient great company. I will be back.

TAMAN wrote:Hua Hin has an effect on people. You can travel far and wide, but it is hard to beat. OK it’s not hedonistic like Pattaya, it is not an adventure destination, and it is not remote. But what is does have is the effect of de-stressing people. How and why it works I haven't worked out; but it does work on most people who try the cure. But a warning the cure is highly addictive, and you will find yourself coming back for more and more. With some folks it becomes so addictive they cannot leave its embrace.
I was trying to pin-point what it is about Hua Hin that I like. You explained it perfectly.

reguarding the russians. friend of mine knew i was into tennis and asked if i could line up some locals to play with a group of russians who were staying for 2 weeks. got our guys and we went over to the dusit, where they were staying, for some tennis. they were damn good. kicked our collective butts. i couldn't get our top players, they we all occupied. had a great time with the commies. went out to dinner and drinking with them and no they did not drink our lads under the table. i asked them why they didn't go to pattaya because of the large russian presence and they said they came to hua hin to avoid those low lifes. they wanted nothing to do with them. these russians were scientist, mayors, pres of companies. these kind of russians hua hin could use. they all had money and spent it freely. the women bought everything not nailed down. they will be coming back. they were a class act and if you bump into them remember they are not all birds of a feather. be nice.

So far the ony bad experience I had with Russians are that sometimes we don't know what we are talking about to each other. Further then that it has been nothing but laughs and hugs (yes, hugs).
