No need to make any further calls because Johan's friend is quite right.
Round head, round eyes and seemingly a pattern of Cobra traces, but if wasn't a cobra. It was a Banded Kukri Snake.
A highly common snake that is found everywhere in Thailand!
The identification of snakes are indeed a difficult task, maybe especially in this case, because the first picture did not reveal the back of the snake.
I must admit that at first glance I thought it looked like a cobra, (not a spitting one), because I've caught two of them on my property, but a closer look at Johan's enclosed pictures will, beyond any doubt, reveal the true identity of a harmless, but aggressive Kukri snake.
In the heat of battle I do understand why people are killing the snakes but I've never killed any snake, included the Cobras and that will never happen.
Just catch them and release them later on out in the sticks, away from where people live, if they are dangerous.

Johan this is a good link to make you more aware of your snake neighbours its always easy to panic if you dont know what you are dealing with.........................
http://www.siam-info.de/english/snakes_common.html

There is a snake catcher in Hua Hin i am sure someone will have his number.
A word of caution if you ever think its a Cobra you are dealing with make sure you cover your eyes buy a cheap pair of safty glasses or as SJ suggested a presure washer from more than 4 metres away.

Per Kendo's link the Malaysian pit viper is found throughout the country. That surprises me as I've been told they've never really made it past Bangkok and into other regions. What we have a lot of over here are pythons. You see them squashed on the roads all the time, primarily near the Queen Sirikit wilderness reserve near here which contains a bit of everything I guess. They just built a new monkey bridge across a busy road where they also were getting squashed. U-Tapao airbase also has a few hundred acres which have been unoccupied and unused for about 40 years. A big monitor lizard about 3/4 the size of a Komodo Dragon seen walking up the road near there the other day, probably looking for soi dogs and cats. Pete

Pete, their range is all over south Aisa. They are responsible for more human bites in India than any other snake (according to a show I saw on NatGeo or Animal Planet).
Just catch them and release them later on out in the sticks, away from where people live, if they are dangerous.
Norseman, how the heck do you do that? I hate to kill any living thing (except for evil humans  :D ) and I tried to make a catcher from a length of PVC pipe and a nylon rope but the rope was so limp I could never get it around the snake. I posted a photo of a professional snake catcher made from aluminum with a squeeze trigger grip that closes a rigid holding device on the other end but nobody ever posted where I could get one. Besides that, it's damned difficult to catch a snake when two dogs are running at it and you're trying to beat them back to keep them from getting bitten and at the same time dodging the stream (in the case of a spitting cobra).

Catching and relocating a dangerous snake needs a trained professional with the proper equipment imo as I have tried and failed a few times. Ended up having to dispatch the snake every time to save the family, self, and dogs from possible harm or death.

Catch and release by all means, just make sure that you release the head in one place and the body in another. As pointed out, it is a job for a professional. They are not neighborhood pets that have just gone astray and need a friendly pat and guidance back to their own territory.

The subject of snakes is similar to that of guns. Everybody is entitled to their point of view, but most of the reaction to either one can never be without emotion. :guns:

It really all depends upon what you wear. Viola.....safari pants/shirt/hat turns an ordinary expat into Marlin Perkins. Who?.....the original wildlife guy on Mutual Of Omaha's Wild Kingdom in the 60's. :duck: Pete

Sadly Pete, I know exactly who Marlin Perkins was. I think I saw every single episode of Wild Kingdom. Remember his sidekick, Jim, I think his name was. Perkins always narrated from a safe position while he sent Jim up close to the animals and into all the dangerous situations.

Exactly Steve, but it also helps to have knee socks, a walking stick under your arm, and look like Terry Thomas!

I think sidekick 'Jim' is still kicking HHF. I remember seeing him on TV not that long ago but perhaps a repeat? Pete

So apart from dressing up as part of the ain't arf hot mum crew and armed with a stick how does one get rid of these visitors in a typical small bungalow plot with 6ft high was all around

I presume they are not scaling the walls but entering via the gated areas unannounced
