I agree with your sentiments. However, Norseman posted some photos I'd taken of HH in 1989. Can't remember the link, perhaps Norseman will oblige?TALBOTMAN wrote:AS SOMEONE HAS ALREADY STATED as long as the king lives in hua hin the pattaya type of entertainment will never be allowed to happen and i for 1 am thankful for that lets face it i like the bars of pattaya/bangkok/patong as much as any other guy but isnt it just great to be able to retreat to places like huahin and lamai beach on kho samui and be able to have arelaxing time at the end of your los holiday and then go home actually feeling like you have had a holiday. i love the relaxation of huahin in the daytime and the easy going nightlife and restaurants. Long may it continue. basically iff you want rowdy nightlife which i like as well you can go to pattaya/patong but leave huahin as it is a sanctuary of calm and relaxation.
Thing is that the difference is so marked and it was only 17 years ago.
The pace of development has escalated a thousand fold just over the past 8 years. This town's on the map already through its imigration ofice, new shopping mall and property construction.
I don't think that it's going to stop here. Wait another 5 years and then see.
Just my opinion.
