Just asking are any of the bars owners here going to be doing there best to have safe havens and look after the music player etc
So you do not alway get covered in the white stuff, as well as water when you just want a drink
ps not a kill joy really

Songkran yes - no? An HHADdict answers
HHADdict said:
"You'll either love it or hate it. If first time, you'll love it unless over about 55".
And guess what? I'm well over 55!
But I finally got an unsolicited answer to my question.

It may be rubbish - but by golly it's British rubbish.

I'm afraid I'm a bit 'bar humbug' when it comes to Songkran, seen way too many of them (this'll be the 11th, I think). Now it seems to be an excuse for idiots to be excessively drunk and do anything they want, perverts are out in force because they get the chance to grope girls or women that come close to them on a bike or whoever/whatever comes their way, crime sky-rockets because of the drunken chaos, 'scooter boys' on Lao kow roaming around and 'off the reservation' even more than usual etc etc etc. It's too bloody dangerous really, ice in the water, barely concealed malice from the uneducated baffoons on the side of the street.
It's not just people like me that think this, a lot of older Thais dislike the festival now and what it's become. All changes when the Thais became mobile in large numbers due to the advent of the pickup truck, say, about 20 years or so ago.
Stock up on booze and food, lock the door and have a good time with the Mrs and/or kids if you have them. staying a decent hotel with all the trimmings is also a good way to 'ride it out'. If you do go out in a car or pickup then lock the doors as I've seen these Jack Sparrow types try to drag people out of cars to soak them.
If you are new to Thailand or an occasional visitor then enjoy them whilst the feeling lasts as it will eventually wear off.
I suppose, it depends where you are, if you are in HH then it's only one day (lucky folks), if you are in Chiang Mai then it can dag on for 10 days etc, average is about 3-4 days in most places, and usually ends at about 6-7pm, apart from the locals air heads that are still doing it 10 days later in random places.![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

OK guys. I have experience Songkran several times both in HH and Isaan and of course after a couple of times it becomes a thing to avoid
My daughters are coming over from the UK and it is the first time they have been here for the Thai NY which incidentally is also my Birthday.
We will be in HH and apart from the Binta block cruise I want them to experience the procession round the town.
Anyone know what date and what time the procession kicks off. And the route?
