Hi Jim,
That's exactly my point in my above post.
It is nice of the owner to give a discount to regulars but why do it now?
Is he going to attract more customers? No.
Is he going to make less profit? Yes.
Maybe even to the point of folding.
Times are very tough and I stand by my belief in that staff and other costs should be reduced accordingly.
OK, try some gimmics to attract customers (and keep the staff busy.) as long as costs are not increased.
I hope you gave them a 10% tip.
I don't have real loyalty to eating establishments. I have my favourites, some are short lived, some are long-time favourites.

If one of my favourites introduced a discount scheme, it would certainly encourage me to visit more frequently.
Only the crumbliest, flakiest Winkie....

Absolutely mate! It boggles the mind how unoriginal they can be. It's almost as if they just walked out of the door one day and saw the next door neighbour had opened a covenience store/restaurant etc and thought "That's a good idea, we'll open one too!". As Buksi pointed out, unashamed plagiarism.

You even see it when you are driving along main roads outside of town, for example, the road to Bangkok or the main road from Bangkok to Nong Khai. You drive through sections/areas that have dozens and dozens of small shops selling the same thing(sausages/fruit/Veg/Chinese trinkets etc).

It can be very surreal sometimes.

I guess when they can buy for 20 and sell to some for 90 they think there must be plenty of profit in the game.

Experienced it in Khon Khaen

Family goes out to pick mushrooms and then set up several stalls on the roadside. Punters stop and browse and then select and buy. At the end of the day the family divies up the revenue and all are happy :D I even tried it but didn't get a cut :(

And thinking about the original post, "Prices Falling".

What about golf? Stupid prices in HH. Friend of mine is moving to Ratchaburi province, beautiful courses, ( Royal, Dragon Hills etc.) 500 baht a round, haven't played for 6 weeks due to the disgusting prices here and my personal economic crisis in the UK.

Maybe we should all follow his example, Golf holiday OK, Live in HH for golf no way!!

You can play the Army course in Pranburi for 620 baht and Milford for 500, not great courses but it is a hit.
I have said it before, if you are a golfer and retire to HH then you must buy a membership, it protects you from ridiculous green fee and is an investment in your lifestyle. Green fees won't come down (except HH golf festival )

Why don't you join one of the golf societys..I think they get reduced green fees at most courses.

I'm just back from a couple of days in Bangkok where tourists have almost disappeared. Hotels are laying off staff and closing resturants due to the low occupancy rates.

We stayed in the Sheraton Grande, occupancy about 25%. Jazz Band playing in the bar to 5 people!!

Same applies to the other tourist attractions/area's & HH is no exception

It must be pretty quite as I’ve just had a look on the net and I can get a flight for this Sunday cheaper than when I booked in September!

I know this is probably the wrong thread for this but since the subject came up here...
You can play the Army course in Pranburi for 620 baht
Where is this course exactly. There are several army bases between Hua Hin and Pranburi and in Pranburi itself (or at least government areas) so I don't know where this course is.

I play infrequently, partly because I can't afford the courses around here, and partly because I have joint and back problems and I never know until I get out of bed in the morning if I can play that day or not. That makes it hard to join a society as they play at scheduled times and require advance sign-ups. :(

I play poorly so the quality of the course is not the most important thing. I just want a place in reasonable shape at a reasonable price that's not too crowded so I can walk on without an advance tee time reservation.

hhfarang,
Tannarat base. Turn right at the first set of lights you come to after the HH-Pranburi road merges with the main bypass road from BKK.

Huahinian wrote:Just to add another facet: Media reports indicate a sharp drop in tourism but try getting a flight ex UK to Bangkok in January or February. Very few seats available and the prices are high e.g. British Airways £1,040 economy return!

I just wonder if the doom and gloom about the high season has been exaggerated by the media!

Very few things have dropped back to the levels existing prior to the surge in oil prices. Such reductions rarely occur. Part of the reason is that we, the public, have been prepared to continue paying the higher prices - I am not referring to domestic essentials. Today we have a different scenario as the Baht is strong (why) and tourists and ex-pats living here on income from abroad are getting less Baht and that, coupled with higher prices could force a re-think but don't hold your breath!
Airfare prices are definately coming down, i was priced by BA, 2 days ago, London-Bangkok-London mid February for 600 notes, this is a very good deal, my missus paid, or rather i paid £800 to fly with Emirates in November and this is with a stop, BA fly direct
