Hopefully this will as many have said end in another military takeover for say the next 2 years.

It is just a shame people in other parts of the world do not have the same resolve as the Thais.

Remember we are but guests in their fine country.

Sorry JJ, don't get your point about neutrals, can you clarify please ?

Agree, hope it ends in Military taking over again, reckon that will be the most peaceful solution.

PAD guards detain policeman

Guards of the People's Alliance for Democracy detained a police senior sergeant major Saturday morning.

Pol Senior Sgt Maj Sompop Nathee, an officer from the Border Patrol Police Region 1 was arrested when he rode a motorcycle to a scene where police crashed with protesters at a police checkpoint on Kingkaew Road.

Sompop was taken to be questioned by Samran Rodphet, a leader of the PAD.

Samran ordered the guards to continue to detain the police officer after the questioning.

Sompop told Samran tht he happed to drive his car past the Kingkaew checkpoint when the clash occurred and he was forced to retreat along with other policemen.

He later decided to ride a taxi motorcycle to the spot to retrieve his car but found that it had been damaged by the protesters. He was captured by the PAD guards at the spot.

When PAD guards took him to Samran inside the Suvarnabhumi Airport, reporters and photographers tried to follow him to interview and take photos but the guards and other protesters booed at the newsmen and did not allow them to follow the guards.

The Nation

So the peaceful protesters are kidnapping police officers now. :guns:

Latest from the eastern front...U-Tapao has had a 1km traffic jam both east and west on Sukumvit since early morning with vehicles going into the passenger terminal gate. Seems this has turned into the main port of exit/entry for the time being. Pete

Well there could at least be some relief for stranded holidaymakers.

Evacuation plan hatched by EU

Germany to repatriate citizens stranded in Thailand starting tomorrow.

Reliable sources say the Republic of Germany has announced it will send aircraft to U-Tapao to evacuate its citizens.

It is understood that the EU will follow with a similar plan, reminiscent of the evacuation flights during the December 2004 tsunami that devastated Andaman coastal resorts in South Thailand.

The first flight from Germany should arrive tomorrow. A source said there are "literally thousands of European tourists still stranded

In the meantime LTU succeeded in flying its first group from Bangkok since the closure of Suvarnabhumi. It will operate daily flights from U-Tapao.

However, it is understood that it took LTU almost six hours to board passengers and depart due to technical and support shortcomings at the airport.

Saw on the news just now where 150 policemen at an highway checkpoint outside the airport jumped in their cars and fled in the face of a bunch of the yellow-shirted protesters running at them with sticks and golf clubs.

hhf, that's the second police check-point they've been driven out of. There must be something behind all this as PM has ordered them to take action.
Either Police do not support the government or the Army (who's suggestion of snap elections was dismissed by government), have told police not to act as they are anti-Thaksin.

Either way if the government do not have control of their country, police and army they have to resign surely.

SJ,
I agree - fleeing to Chiang Mai after enduring months of occupation of key government buildings and then occupation of the two main airports and not having the ability to either instruct, control or order the police or army to do something speaks volumes. What i can't understand is why there has not been a motion of no confidence in Parliament, given that the PPP do not hold a majority and rely on other parties to retain power. Maybe that is what will happen on Monday? If the MPs from the PPP are noth there (in Bangkok) surely it would be easy to throw them out in a legitimate political vote?
