However, many days on, still nothing is forthcoming.

It's not looking promising....

It does make you wonder what's going on. Are they trying to carve the action up behind closed doors just to their own benefit?

Personally, the longer the silence is maintained, the more despondent I become. After such a bright start, with people standing up to represent the masses, I'm starting to believe its becoming an elitist club that have forgotten their prime objective.

Big Boy,
This so called property trade association shoulden't it be transparent, and all minuits from meetings be available for public scrutiny.

I would have thought so, but it seems that despite all of the original intentions they have something they don't want to share.

I have not seen the minutes yet .I had to leave the meeting early but agreed to join an official assoc . The application is complex and will take a minimum of 3 months .Criteria for membership were discussed based on avoiding situations that have caused problems in the past .Far from being an "elitist club" it is more a group of people involved in the industry who actually own the property outright or with correct financing (ie no handshake deal with a pineapple farmer who promises his uncle will sign it over when its finished) and deliver what they say they will deliver, meet building codes, have building permission where required and stick to their word .IMO the vast majority of developments fall into this category and the few that do not are the cause of bad publicity . Have a great sunday

Thanks for the update C88 and a lot of what you have briefly touched on does rather raise further questions. But that wouldn't be fair from such a brief synopsis (IMHO).

But I find the all important criteria for membership a bit cryptic, maybe you could expand on it further?

Same developers, different rules or self-election?

Agents to form their own association?

Who actually own the property outright.
It must be a Thai organisation?
Or a condo? :D

Property trade assoc.

I fail to understand why this is not open to all. A list of names of participants and their companies would be helpful for all concerned. If there is no transparency people will read into it that there is something to hide. Surely the original idea was to bring everything out into the open and stop the bickering.

The overall process of forming the association has been. It's not complete yet so they are not at the stage to make anything public.
The first stage approx. 4-5 months of gaining everyone's views has been done already, every single Hua Hin homeowner who wanted to attend was welcomed. I think only about 6 actually did this mind.

Now a smaller core group of local property trade and real estate lawyers are putting together the rules and regulations that any developer wishing to be in the association must meet.
Once that's completed it will be open to the public, along with a list of founding members. Everyone will be free to comment to them, make use of the association or disgard it.

I think the idea of a property trades association is obviously a good thing if its intention is to provide the consumer with a guarantee of minimum standards. However, I don't believe that minutes of meetings from any organisation - unless it is a body in receipt of public funds - need be put in to the public domain.

Right Jaime, and the thing I think people are not clear on is that the Association is not formed yet.
They are having working sessions to form a Property Trade Association.

Exactly what I was asking for

Thank you for the re-assurance Crazy88 - it's good to know that they're looking after you while you're trying to represent the masses

Yeah Caller and BB, regular progress updates would be useful and might help with the 'secrecy' impression. I'm not involved but will let the organiser know this thread is asking for this.
