New rumor... Satukarn Square
New rumor... Satukarn Square
I heard today that in about eight months all the businesses on the south side of Satukarn Square from TOT to the traffic light were going to be torn down to make room for a new hotel.
Anyone else heard anything about this?

The tailor that we use on occasion has said the same thing.
He applied for another 12 month rental contract, but he was told that he could only have eight months, because the area mentioned was being developed, he told us that a new hotel was to be built with a small plaza, facing the main road.

I don't know anything about the planned hotel but would hazard a guess that they will take up all the restaurant/shop unit space. Even if the hotel is narrow and cut's through the middle of the restaurants, the remaining one's won't be able to function with a major construction site next to them which often work day and nights. You'll be sitting there with a hard hat on incase something falls off the side of the building.
Shame, another nail for the small busineses in town.

Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BGH):
Group management has said there are no major investment plans in the near future although several small projects are in the pipeline. These include the Royal Phnom Penh Hospital with 100 beds, which will be opened in late 2009. The Royal Bangkok Abu Dhabi Hospital with 30 beds, which will be in operation next year, and Bangkok Hua Hin Hospital with 50 beds, which will be opened in 2010

I have heard the same and only eight month lease are being to the plots on Damnoernkasem and back about half way. My understanding is that the front units will stay and also the units running along the narrow one way soi next to the Mall.
I know it may sound stupid on the surface to build a new hotel when the town is dead, but like all recessions since the first use of money, it will end at sometime. Hotels work on a five year minimum plan. The best time to buy land and build is during the recession. There is less business to lose and everything is cheaper and easier to obtain. What I have notice here is that if the developers run out of money they just put the project on hold until a suitable buyer/letter comes up.I believe that is what happened with the new place in Binthabat.

There was a large sign coming towards hua hin a while ago, with a plan of shop units, I asked the wife where this was and she said Satukarn Square that is going to be re developed.
also we now have the new shop units, close to the railway station, maybe another 50 tailor/drug / money laundering shops.

The hotel will be named Best Western Green Garden Resort and will comprise of over 60 guest rooms. Located on Petchkasem Road, the main highway running through Hua Hin along the coast of the Gulf of Thailand, the hotel will be within walking distance to beach areas.
The attractions of Hua Hin town, from its colourful night market and arts and craft shops to sophisticated shopping, entertainment centres and varied nightlife, are all within five minutes drive from the hotel. There are several world-class golf courses located nearby. Drive time from Bangkok is 2-3 hours and 15 minutes from Hua Hin Airport.
“We are very excited to have this opportunity to introduce the Best Western brand to another of Thailand’s key resort destinations,” said Glenn de Souza, Best Western International Vice President for International Operations in Asia. “With its upscale visitor profile and emphasis on providing quality vacations, Hua Hin is a perfect match for a Best Western hotel such as this and we expect an immediate positive response from the market.”
Located approximately 190km south of Bangkok, Hua Hin first became popular as a holiday destination among Thailand’s high society after King Rama VI began paying regular visits to the area almost a century ago. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulydej also favours the seaside town where he frequently stays in his beachside summer palace Klai Kang Won (Far from Worries). Hua Hin’s peaceful scenery have made this location popular amongst Thai royalty as well as local and international tourists from all over the world.
Best Western Green Garden Resort is expected to open in 2010.
