im planning on spending 2 weeks over christmas and new year in HAU HIN, ill be staying with my uncle and his wife, is there anything i need 2 know b4 i sort it all out ??? oh and how long can i stay there on a british passport just incase i like it
You will get a 30 day tourist visa stamp in your passport on arrival. In theory you can't stay longer than that but you could do the visa run - cross into a neighbouring country and then back - to get a new 30 day tourist visa.
If you don't like the sound of that then get yourself to your local Thai consulate - there is one in Cardiff and I think there is one in Birmingham, so take your pick - and get yourself a 60 day tourist visa. I think it costs about 20 quid now. I have used the one in Cardiff and they did it right away. My experience of the Thai consulate in London is that it is busy - avoid it if you can and use a quieter provincial consulate to avoid queuing.
I understand that the 60 day visa can be extended once in Thailand by another 30 days but don't know how you go about doing this. Perhaps others can advise when the time comes.
I extended a 60 days visa for 30 more days,again 14 days and again 2 times one week,I stayed in all 4 month .This was a few years ago,dont know if there are some changes but dont think.
You can definitely extend a Tourist visa once for an extra 30 days - cost 1,900 Baht and done at any immigration office.
As Kaolalok, I've had "additional extensions" in the past, but that was when they were costing 500/300 Baht. With the fee now at 1,900 for any extension, you're probably better off doing a visa run and seeing some of the country once you've extended for the first 30 days.
As Jaime says, use a Consulate in the UK to get your visa. They'll accept applications by post and it's a much less stressful way to go than dealing with The Thai Embassy in London.
