My wife is never wrong
My (Thai) wife is never wrong. She is a 47 year old well educated woman. Degree from a Bangkok university, a year of classes in the states for a pharmacist assistant license. Also 11 years as a manager at Disneyland.
In our 15 years together she has admitted being wrong probably 3-4 times. Even when it is obvious she is wrong she either argues, changes her position, or does something to show she is not wrong (doesn't always mean she's right, just not wrong.
I love her dearly.
Anyone else experience this possibly Thai phenomenon?

The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.

Re: My wife is never wrong
No woman anywhere is ever wrong. Nothing Thai about this. 555

I once thought I was wrong....
but I was mistaken

Re: My wife is never wrong
When I first started visiting Thailand a bit over 30 years ago an expat joke I heard many times was "For Sale; One set of Encyclopedia Britannica. No longer needed, have Thai wife. She knows everything." In 20+ years of marriage to a Thai I have found this to be the truth...
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I hate that conversation
HE--So what did I do wrong
SHE- You mean to stand there and pretend you don't know.

Agreed, Mrs C suffers from the Never Wrong Syndrome also...
I think it's connected to the fact that during our 5 years living together here I can honestly only remember 2 or 3 occasions when she apologised (for anything).
IMHO the inability to apologise (and admit to an error and/or lack of knowledge) must create a barrier to progress - not good.

Re: My wife is never wrong
In any management course, they teach that managers must take some of the blame for errors by junior staff. "I have to apologize too, its partly my fault that you made this error, we need to work together to be sure that this never happens again" Of course there is an element of passive-aggression in this.
In almost all Asian countries fixing blame is the first priority in the face of a problem and "I'm sorry"
" is always an admission of guilt. Also putting things behind you and moving on, is not big in Asia.

Admitting wrong is equivalent to losing face, the same for not knowing something. It must be difficult living with a large ego in the face of an inferiority complex.

My favorite inferiority complex joke--and sometimes it is not a joke
Patient--Dr I have this terrible inferiority complex
Psychiatrist-- No you don't, it's not a complex, you really are inferior.

Re: My wife is never wrong
I have never lived with a Thai lady but in the work area I found the opposite to be the case. It was often difficult to get young Thai ladies to say what they thought and would often remain silent when they had much that they could have contributed to discussions.
