As John Wayne said, "Life is hard and it's harder if you are stupid"

It is not the task of the police to help you find lost property that has NOT been stolen.
Maybe time for a new dictionary Roel. Try the Oxford one.

steal
Definition of steal in English:
verb (past stole /stəʊl/; past participle stolen /ˈstəʊlən/)

Take (another person’s property) without permission or legal right and without intending to return it:

As John Wayne said, "Life is hard and it's harder if you are stupid"
Bit harsh, I've become a very forgetful person (see 'Forgetting Things' thread). Being forgetful and being stupid are a bit different to each other in my eyes.
Mark it down to experience as I doubt you'll see anything resembling a decent outcome on this one.....don't be absent-minded.
Yes Spitfire, I'm gonna do exactly that. I probably won't bother buying any 'gadget' of value again.

Actually it is more complicated if you really want to know. From Wikipedia:

Theft by finding occurs when someone who chances upon an object which seems abandoned takes possession of the object but fails to take steps to establish whether the object is abandoned and not merely lost or unattended.

Did the finder take these steps? Impossible for us to know. I my country the right thing to do is to bring it to the nearest police station. The police will safe keep it and try to contact the owner (probably possible in the case of a telephone or a wallet with some kind of ID, almost impossible if it is just a key or a bag of groceries). In my country if the owner cannot be traced and/or does not come forward to claim the property after 1 year the police will contact the finder and from then on he is the legal owner of the found property.

Now for obvious reasons the above procedure is not applicable in this country.

Unlikely I admit but for all we know the finder is still running around asking people to help him trace you.

Thinking about it, I agree. I was getting on my high chair a little then... in a bad mood for obvious reasons.

Will be going in there after work to find out. If they can't find the guy themselves, I will obtain the picture of who took it and post it anywhere and everywhere I can asking if he/she is known by anyone. I will of course offer a small reward to anyone who can identify the thief. A lost cause most likely, but no harm in trying a little before scratching it off as a loss.

As you already said it confused the police and it will also confuse the bank and everybody else if you keep calling the finder a thief. Good luck on your quest.

I was under the impression that to activate the police into getting something done would be for the police to be motivated by an addition to their tea money fund

As far as the practicalities of finding the iPad are concerned, the bank may well prove to be of little help. As far as I'm aware, ATM photos only record people who actually use the ATM, so while it may well reveal who used it after GLCQ, that doesn't necessarily mean the iPad hadn't already been found and removed by someone else.

(That's my story anyway, and I'm sticking to it...)
