Thailand is one busy babysitter
Thailand's advancement will persist at a snail's pace if this country continues to be a childcare centre babysitting 65 million children........

Second last sentence says it all for me:
Never gonna happen while the political dinosaurs and their greedy families are still running the roost. There needs to be a change of vision, a re-engineering of cultural attitude and mindset - and a reformation of the education system.

Yes, I certainly admire his writing style. Does he do it as well in Thai? I don't read it so I wouldn't know.Mummy needs to take away the cute Hello Kitty floatation device.

So true, read more...If education is not reformed the best Thailand would achieve is becoming a country that wears a lot of makeup and brand-name clothes, holding a cookie jar, but still bogged down by chronic back pains and constant migraines. Frankly, the country would be low in both emotional quotient (EQ) and intelligence quotient (IQ).

In the Philippines, which bears the brunt of cyclones, there is currently a petition to name all typhoons after corrupt politicians to make everyone associate bad weather with bad dudes. Now that's an idea. Perhaps we could try it in Thailand, although there are probably not enough storms to go round.

Re: Voranai another good article
Two good articles in today's Post. First by former student leader Thirayuth Boonmi who is director of Thammasat University's Sanya Dharmasakti Institute followed by Voranai talking about similar things.
http://m.bangkokpost.com/opinion/375053If Thai society is to focus its energy on moving in the right direction, we should no longer consider Thaksin Shinawatra and the red-yellow conflict as a crisis confronting the nation. It is just a problem waiting to be solved. The Thaksin problem is not a democratic crisis, but a problem of good governance, lack of transparency and accountability. It's a problem of corruption and legal violations. Therefore it requires solutions that deal directly with those issues _ not a coup d'etat.

There’s a move by the Pheu Thai government. One that is not motivated by democracy, but rather a power grab in the guise of democracy. It can only fool the gullible. That move is the expansion of family-controlled politics.

Alcohol may be the worst (abused) drug, but it's LEGAL which makes it a bit different from all the others you are writing about. Alcohol abuse is a social problem. Drug abuse is a criminal problem in most places.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Are things really moving this way? IMHO, they have been for awhile already.

So it’s simply a matter of interpreting Thaksin Shinawatra’s corruption conviction as a politically related crime, which of course it is. How can political corruption not be politically related? Then give him amnesty and return his 46 billion baht, along with a pat on the shoulder, saying, "sorry old boy, carry on".

Yes, but if you decriminalize it, then it too becomes a social problem. Portugal is a perfect example, and personally I thinks it's good to see other countries starting to change their views. Every single aspect of the "war on drugs" has only served to make matters worse.
Anyway.....

.It is reported there is a new English slang term being used by people in Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore. The phrase is "Don’t Thai to me". It means don’t lie to me or cheat me.

Re: Voranai another good article
The article today about "Don't Thai to me" is spookily accurate...........another one he's 'hit the nail on the head' with despite it making uncomfortable reading for any locals capable of actually reading that sort of English, and would freak out a good majority of the ones that can't if there was a good translation published.
Good comment and analysis as always from this guy.

Yet again, spot on. I don't always agree with his points of view but must say more than 80 %, I do.

They only know the textbook version of democracy, and presented with anything that might deviate from the theory due to factors mentioned above, their brains simply come to a halt. Be very mindful of biting into the combo platter of ignorance and self righteousness; it is diarrhoea-inducing.
The reality of circumstance is that in Thailand, the tyranny of the minority is being corrected, but we are in danger of sliding down towards the tyranny of the majority, if not the tyranny of one.
